Hope Haven, Inc. Hope Haven - Therapeutic Community that provides a foundation of recovery for individuals & families.

Hope Haven was founded in 1976 by Arietta Black and Alice Trotter. Concerned with the lack of resources for women in early recovery from alcoholism, they went door to door gathering signatures of support, which they leveraged into a grant from Lance, Inc. Hope Haven used those funds to open its first home, serving five women seeking to rebuild their lives on a solid foundation of recovery. Today, Hope Haven is a licensed Therapeutic Community, which is a national best practice for the treatment of Substance Use Disorder. We serve more than 300 men, women, and children annually, including individual men and women, single moms with kids, single dads with kids, and intact families. Residents complete our long term program that consists of individual and group counseling, workforce development, job readiness, medical care, housing placement assistance, and more, preparing them for healthy independent living.

If you're struggling with Substance Use Disorder, you're not alone. That also means that if you're ready to begin your journey of recovery, there's a wide community of people who have taken those same steps and would love to support you.

To get started, you can check out www.aa.org (Alcoholics Anonymous) or www.na.org (Narcotics Anonymous) to find recovery groups in your area. In Charlotte, Hope Haven provides a Therapeutic Community and a team of highly trained, high-empathy staff to help people build healthy, independent lives. There's a pervasive misconception in American culture that addiction results from a lack of willpower or moral principles, but that's not true. Addiction is a complex disease that alters the brain, making it hard to quit even for those who want to stop.

Drug addiction is a chronic disease where people compulsively seek and use drugs despite harmful consequences. Repeated drug use changes the brain, making it hard to resist intense cravings. Relapse is common, even after long periods of sobriety, but that doesn’t mean treatment failed. Research has uncovered effective treatments that can help people recover and lead fulfilling lives.

findtreatment.gov offers information on a wide variety of treatment options for Substance Use Disorder and related disorders, including a directory of Therapeutic Communities like Hope Haven. You can learn more about our programs at www.hopehaveninc.org.

This group meets once a month for learning and supervision with MINT member Jon Weddell. Registration is for all 10 sessions and includes monthly sessions and a 'train the trainer' session in June with materials to allow each participant to be a trainer at their agency. Scholarships are available for COC member agencies.
