When the pandemic shifted daily life, Maria became the full‑time caregiver for her son, Alex. That’s when she found Abound Health’s Specialized Consultative Services (SCS).

"The Power of Small" is the theme for this years gathering. It will highlight how seemingly small ideas, actions, or innovations can create massive impact.

Family Spotlight: Meet the Singletary family—a testament to love, resilience, and hope. After experiencing the heartbreaking loss of their daughter Laura Anne, who had Down syndrome, the Singletarys felt called to open their hearts to another child with special needs. Welcoming Sophia, a newborn with Down syndrome, brought new light and joy into their lives.

Today, Sophia is a vibrant presence in our Raleigh day program, growing and thriving within a community rooted in care and belonging. Stories like hers show the transformative power of person-centered support and unwavering love. We are honored to walk alongside families like the Singletarys, every step of the way.

Today marks the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a landmark law signed on July 26, 1990. The ADA changed lives by protecting the disabled community from discrimination and opening doors to a more accessible world.

This year, our community has felt the impact of uncertainty in medicaid funding. That’s why, on this special anniversary, we’re raising our voices louder than ever to remind leaders: the IDD community is here to stay! 📣

Our Day programs and clients proudly joined the campaign—writing letters and sharing powerful personal stories to show just how critical strong disability services are for people everywhere.

Let’s continue to push for progress and equal access—for now and future generations.

Katie is a cashier at , a coffee shop that employs individuals with disabilities. She's even been awarded employee of the month for her positive attitude and hard work! In her free time she enjoys participating in the Special Olympics and listening to Celine Dion.
