May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and at Abound Health we are honoring the caregivers in our community. Your mental health and wellbeing matter just as much as the person you support.

Caring for yourself is not selfish; it is how you keep caring for others. Check out these tips for simple, realistic ways to add self care into your day, and share them with a caregiver who might need the reminder.

In 2001, Keri Pilkerton-Richardson began her career as a DSP. Today, she serves as our Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations, leading teams across the entire state of North Carolina. Twenty-four years, one company, and a career that is anything but ordinary.

What kept her here? A team that shows up like family, a mission she believes in deeply, and a company that never stopped investing in her growth.

She helped launch our Raleigh office with just six clients, guided Abound through multiple acquisitions, and grew from frontline care to statewide clinical leadership with the same compassion she walked in with on day one.

When asked what advice she would give someone just starting out, Keri shared, "The sky is truly the limit and your voice matters."

This is , where we celebrate the stories of who make us great.

We are so grateful to have you on our team, Keri!

✨ Client Spotlight: Meet Alison! ✨

Alison is thriving as a student in the WCU University Participant (UP) Program 💙

"My favorite part about being in college is my classes and being able to attend events at Western."

She's building real skills along the way, from resume writing to independent living, and looking ahead with big goals:

Fun fact: Alison has been singing since she was just 5 years old. We're so proud to support her as she works toward everything she deserves 🌟

When Brenda first walked through our doors, she rarely said a word. Today, she is standing at the front of the room teaching.

We are beyond proud to share that Brenda, one of our incredible Day Program participants, recently led her very first jewelry-making class, guiding her peers through creating necklaces, bracelets, and earrings from scratch. She made sure everyone could participate, no matter their skill level, and every single person walked away with something beautiful they made with their own hands.

She had never taught anyone before. But she was willing to try. And she exceeded every expectation.

This is what growth looks like. This is what community looks like.

Thank you Brenda for sharing your gift with us. We are so proud of you! 💚

Congratulations to this year’s Abound Health Promise Scholarship recipients: Grace Brown, Sylvia Bryant, Meosha Mason, and Linda Shannon! 🎉

The Promise Scholarship celebrates team members who are dedicated to learning and service, reflecting our shared commitment to growth, advocacy, and meaningful support for others.

Meet two of our incredible recipients featured here:
✨Grace Brown is a DSP and she is pursuing her master’s degree in Occupational Therapy. With the help of the Promise Scholarship, she’s able to focus fully on her studies and her goal of providing the best care possible for future clients.
✨Sylvia Bryant, a mom of three, AFL provider, and full-time team member, is completing her associate degree in Human Services. The scholarship helps ease financial pressure as she continues her journey to advocate for individuals with IDD.

It's our privilege to support our team members as they continue their careers in the world of IDD services and support!
