Ronald Brown Hurlocker, 78, of Mt. Pleasant, NC, passed away on September 3, 2025.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Sharon Bailey Hurlocker; his father, Lacy Hurlocker; and his mothers, Helen Shoaf Hurlocker and Helen Barringer Hurlocker,

He is survived by his brother, Max Hurlocker (Mary); daughters, Erica Hurlocker Hicks (Johnny) and Erin Hurlocker Long; grandsons, Jared Drye (Marysa), Logan Drye, Carson Hurlocker, Miken Long, and Easton Long; and his cherished great-grandson, Riley Stetson Drye.

Ronald's life was defined by service, family, and community. He was a longtime supporter of Mt. Pleasant High School athletics, faithfully operating the football clock and scoreboard for 30 years and announcing baseball games. He served in various roles with the MPHS Athletic Boosters Club and was always one of the Tigers' biggest supporters.

As a proud member of the Mt. Pleasant Lions Club for 45 years, Ronald dedicated his time in many leadership roles, including 18 years as Director of the Youth Football program. He also served on the Mt. Pleasant Food Ministry Board of Directors, living out his commitment to helping others.

Faith guided Ronald throughout his life. He was a dual member of St. John's Lutheran Church and Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, where he served faithfully in numerous roles. At St. John's, he taught Sunday School, served on the Church Council, and volunteered in many ways—including mowing the church grounds, At Mt. Pleasant Methodist, he was a Sunday School teacher, active in Methodist Men, and held many other church leadership positions.

Ronald was also a local historian, authoring Cemetery Records of St. John's Lutheran Church, Concord, NC and History of Mt. Pleasant High School Football. His writings preserve the legacy of the community he loved so dearly.

Above all, Ronald will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His heart for service, deep faith, and dedication to his family and community will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 12:00—2:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Pastors Earl Bradshaw of Mt. Pleasant Methodist and Matt Hansen of St. John's Lutheran Church will officiate.

Christine Watts Manus

Christine Watts Manus, 97, peacefully passed away at her home on September 2, 2025. She was a devoted sister and aunt to her family and a friend to many in the community and her church.

Services will be held at Boger Reformed Church located at 7313 Gold Hill Road, Concord, North Carolina on Friday, September 5, at 4:00 PM with burial following in the church cemetery. Dr. Craig Scott and Dr. John Taylor Brantley will officiate the service. An ice cream reception will be held after the service for family and friends to gather and remember Christine and her love for them and her love of ice cream.

Christine was born July 26, 1928 in Cabarrus County, to the late Marvin C. Watts and Bessie Allman Watts. Following her high school graduation, Christine completed a degree at Queen's College in Charlotte and worked a career as an administrative assistant at Cannon Mills in Kannapolis, NC. She was happily married to Warren Manus for 56 years until his death. She enjoyed playing the organ for over 40 years at the church, and held many offices in the church where she served her Lord whom she loved very much. She was well known for baking pound cakes for many occasions. Sometimes she would make 10 cakes at a time and freeze them to share with others for special occasions. She enjoyed decorating her home and working with flowers. She mowed her yard weekly, even into her nineties. She loved sharing with others and taught her family many lessons about life. Her legacy will be remembered by many and her kind heart will continue to shine brightly through her family and friends.

Christine is survived by her sister Joyce Scott and many nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be directed to Boger Reformed Church, 7313 Gold Hill Road, Concord, North Carolina 28025.

Lorraine Williams Shue, born on June 22, 1942, in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, peacefully passed away on August 31, 2025, at Atrium Health - Cabarrus. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose legacy will be cherished by all who knew her.

A visitation will be on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant, NC. The funeral will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Mills Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, located at 493 China Grove Road, Kannapolis, NC. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC.

Following her high school education, Lorraine pursued her passion in the beauty industry by attending Cosmetology school. This passion blossomed into a fulfilling career as a beautician, where she touched the lives of many. Lorraine was not only known for her professional skills but also for her warm heart and nurturing spirit.

A lifelong member of Mills Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, Lorraine was deeply rooted in her faith and community. Her love for cooking, canning from the garden, and spending time at Ocean Isle Beach were some of her cherished activities. A remarkable grandmother, she devoted countless hours to loving and nurturing her granddaughters. Additionally, her love for sewing and quilting allowed her to create lasting memories and treasured keepsakes for her family.

Lorraine is survived by her loving husband, Reid Shue; daughters, Heidi Barrier and husband Matt, Holly Mabe and husband Brian; brother Randy Williams and wife Susan; sister Belinda Napier; sister-in-law Sonya Williams; and grandchildren, Allison Nowokunski and husband Troy and Shelby Deal and husband Jonathan.

She was preceded in death by her parents Buren Lee Williams and Mattie Elizabeth Mullis Williams, her brother Rommie Williams, and her brother-in-law Donnie Napier.

Ravon Harkey, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, at his residence. Born on March 23, 1948, in Cabarrus County, NC, Ravon lived a life full of adventure, valued relationships, and unwavering dedication to his family.

The Harkey family will receive friends on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Home and Crematory in Mt. Pleasant, NC. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM in the Gordon Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC.

A graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, Ravon served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. His life was marked by hard work and an array of accomplishments, including truck driving, installing custom fencing, and building both old and new log cabins and barns. He also excelled in land management, skills he honed throughout his many jobs.

Ravon’s spirit shone brightly through his love of travel and the great outdoors. He enjoyed planning trips with family and friends, whether for vacations or hunting and fishing adventures. Known for always being the driver, he never met a stranger on his journeys across America, often running into familiar faces along the way.

He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Caskey Harkey; daughters, Alison Ballard and her husband Jason, and Karen Helms and her husband Keith; brothers, Larry Harkey and his wife Brenda, Jerry Harkey and his wife Linda, Gary Harkey and his wife Linda, and Robby Harkey and his wife Vicki; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Leah, Sawyer, and Claire.

Ravon is preceded in death by his parents, Wade David Harkey and Bessie Page Harkey.

Ravon Harkey will be missed by all who knew him, remembered for his kindness, his adventurous spirit, and deep love for his family.

William (Bill) Martin Burns, 71, of Concord, passed away Monday, August 4, 2025, at his residence.

Bill was born November 5, 1953 in Flint, MI, son of the late William Burns and Betty Kitchen Burns.

He attended Mott College, in Flint Michigan. His major was automotive technology. He also was a real estate broker, a painter, a locksmith, electrician, and a maintenance supervisor. He was a lifelong learner, and very inquisitive. He was extremely intelligent, and had a quick wit.

Bill loved traveling, especially on his Harley, in his travels he enjoyed exploring history and historical sites. He liked going to the beach and swimming in the ocean. He also liked going to the mountains and exploring the terrain. Loved old movies, and music. Especially Motown (since he was raised outside Detroit) and 1970's and 1980's music. In addition, was a big fan of movies, the TCM type, the older classics, but loved all kinds of movies.

He is survived by his wife Sandra McQueen Burns; children Ben and Rebecca Burns and their children. Lifetime best friend Roy Sherwood and many other friends.

Mary Austin Brooks, age 92, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025, at St. Andrews Living Center in Concord, North Carolina.

Mary was born on October 26, 1932, in Gastonia, North Carolina daughter of the late Ralph L. Austin and Ruth Houser Austin. Mary dedicated many years of her life to her career at Duke Energy. She was an active member of Glorieta Baptist Church, where she particularly enjoyed singing in the church choir.

Her personal passions included making the best pimento cheese, quilting, gardening, and reading, activities which she often shared with her loved ones. Mary had a green thumb, finding joy not just in cultivating flowers but also in sharing the beauty of nature with her family and friends.

Mary leaves behind cherished family members who will forever hold her memory close. She is survived by her two sons, Mark Brooks and Michael Brooks (Pam), both of Rockwell, along with her brother, Ralph L. (Lenny) Austin, Jr (Rhonda). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Jocelyn Stacy (Phillip), John Brooks (Jill), Nathan Brooks (Katie), and Christa Brooks, as well as her great-grandchildren: Cole, Caleb, Caden, Marshall, Sonora, Landyn, Josie, Maggie, and Oliver. She was predeceased by her husband, Olin E. Brooks.

A visitation will be held in her honor on August 1, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Glorieta Baptist Church located at 4912 NC-73, Concord, NC 28025. This will be followed by a funeral service, beginning at 11:30 AM officiated by Rev. Nathan Brooks. Entombment to follow a Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Mildred Jeanette Petrea Overcash, 101 years old, passed away on Sunday, July 27th at Mount Pleasant House.

Graveside service will be held 11am July 30, 2025 at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Bill Nix.

She was born on November 7th, 1923 in Cabarrus County. She was the oldest daughter of Marvin and Caroline Petrea. Jeanette worked as a beautician for many years. She loved animals and once had a pet goat that she bottle-fed. She had many dachshunds throughout her lifetime and even had a graveyard for them in the front yard of the home she and Harold shared for many years. In addition to her parents she is predeceased by, a sister Sarah Holcomb, and husband Harold.

She is survived by her cousin, David Petrea.

Tonda Reeder Chandler, 76, of Gold Hill, passed away Sunday July 20, 2025 at Atrium Health Cabarrus.

Tonda was born August 25, 1948 in Cabarrus County to the late Lewis and Tillie Rhodes Reeder. She worked many years as a custodian for Cabarrus County Schools. She also loved to work in her yard taking special care of her flowers and her cats. She will be remembered by all as a hard worker who would do anything to lend a helping hand.

Tonda is survived by her husband, Medrick Chandler; son Edwin Roy, Jr. (Stephanie); grandchildren, Jenna Roy, Jensen Roy and Easton Roy; brothers, Mike Sibley and Lewis Sibley; sister, Teresa Caudle.

Celebration of life will be held 1pm Wednesday, July 23 at Promise City Church, 901 South Church St. Salisbury NC 28144. Steve was born March 12, 1958, in Carter County, TN to the late Myrtle B. and Denver Johnson. He dedicated many years of his life to the construction industry, with his longest tenure as a skilled heavy equipment operator at Rae Construction. Even outside of work, his hands were rarely idle. He had a passion for woodworking, crafting everything from furniture to birdhouses. A lover of the outdoors, he also enjoyed tending his garden. Known for his hearty meals, he took pride in being a true ‘country cook’, sharing his creations with family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Allen Johnson and a sister Donna Johnson.He is survived by his devoted wife Margaret Eubanks Johnson; children, Roger (Christie), Steven, Angela, Matthew and Meghan (Jeremy); grandchildren, Jacob, Nicole, Olivia, Mikayla, David, Riley, Timothy and Jonathan; a brother N.L. Donnie was born June 18, 1961 in Iredell County, son of the late Dubert James Yates, Sr. and Geraldine Furr Yates. He was also preceded in death by brother Dubert James Yates, Jr. and maternal grandparents W.J. and Myrtle Marlow Furr.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years 11 months, Donna Goodman Yates of the home; daughters, Amanda Truman (Josh) of Salisbury, Britney Strube (Kevin) of Mt. Pleasant; son Jesse Yates (Josie) of Richfield; sister Holly Millsaps of Wooster, OH; half siblings Sharrell Cartwright and Ed Yates of Australia; grandchildren Ryan Truman, Mason Truman, Asa Strube and Lyila Yates; sister in law, Lelani Goodman Cress and Suzanne Yates; his 4 legged babies, Peppa, Bandit and Ottie. Paul Woolard Harris, Jr.

Paul Woolard Harris, Jr., born on June 28, 1949, in Greenville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025, in Concord, North Carolina. He was a prominent figure in both his professional and personal life, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Woolard dedicated many years of his career to finance and Turnaround Management, holding significant positions at such esteemed companies as Wachovia Bank, Hanes Inc., Cannon Mills, Wiscassett Mills, The Finley Group, and Carl Marks LLC. His expertise and commitment to his profession led him to serve on numerous financial and civic boards, contributing positively to the community around him.

A devoted member of Parkwood Baptist Church since 1983, Woolard was actively involved in church activities and he demonstrated a strong sense of service, volunteering as both a firefighter and a police officer in his younger years. His commitment to help others was evident in all aspects of his life, truly embodying the values of generosity and compassion. Woolard was well known for his fast wit and ability to make everyone around him laugh.

Woolard is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia Roebuck Harris; his daughter, Tonya Harris Williams; his daughter-in-law Amanda Harris; and his beloved grandchildren, Tyler Harris Williams, Brett Thomas Williams, and Connor Paul Harris. Also he leaves behind his sisters, Brenda Hall and Paula Jones (Pete), as well as sisters-in-law Tric James (Clint) and Joyce Buck. A cherished uncle, he is remembered by his nieces and nephews, Tim (Dana), Mike, Rhonda (Juan), Ivela (Josh), Brandon (Crystal), Jamie (Gavin), Tracey (Kent), Donna, Tammy, Casey, Clinton (Shanna), Codi (Erik). Woolard also leaves behind his loyal companion and beloved dog, Willie.

Woolard was preceded in death by his father, Paul Woolard Harris Sr. and mother, Edna Earl Harris; his son, Paul Woolard Harris III and his granddaughter Emma Williams, all of whom were especially cherished. Also, he was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Dr. Roy Hall, Donald Buck, and sister-in-law Ellen Hardee and husband, Travis.

A visitation will be held on June 19, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM at Parkwood Baptist Church, Concord, NC officiated by Rev. Michael Waters. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Iris Duree Culp Barrier, 88, of Mount Pleasant, passed away Tuesday June 10, 2025 at her home.

Private graveside service will be held at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Iris was born in Cabarrus County January 16, 1937 to the late Robert Lee and Audrey Honeycutt Culp. She was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church. She worked for many years in healthcare as a registered nurse, working at both Cabarrus Memorial Hospital and the VA Hospital in Salisbury. In addition to her parents, her husband Bobby E. Barrier preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughter Sandra Smith (Eric); son Steven Deal (Cyndi); sister Leona Brown (Glenn); nephew Brian Hatley (Julie); grandchildren, Elliott Smith (Alaina), Evan Smith, Hannah Smith (Dylan McSwain), Alex Deal (Samantha) and Thomas Deal; great grandchildren, Aubrey, Evelyn, and Henry Smith.
