Our Foundation and Hospital deeply thank Bill and Ann Cannon for their ongoing support. Last week, we had the honor of recognizing and meeting this year's 2025 Ann Cannon Spirit of Volunteerism Scholarship Award recipient. During a gathering at the Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation, Bill and Ann Cannon honored Baylee Barkley with this prestigious award. Baylee, who plans to pursue a nursing degree at UNC Wilmington this fall, is the 22nd recipient of the scholarship and began volunteering in 2022, accumulating over 100 hours at our hospital. After nursing school, she aims to further her education and become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).
During this time, we were also joined by special guests who are both CRNAs at Atrium Health Cabarrus, Justice Edmond and Cherie Lowry. These two individuals took time away from the OR and shared their journeys on becoming a CRNA while sharing helpful tips with Baylee. We are proud of our Atrium Health Cabarrus teammates and thankful for the dedication they have to our community.
The Ann Cannon Spirit of Volunteerism Scholarship Award, created in 2004, is funded by the Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation as a tribute from Mr. William (Bill) Cannon to his wife, Mrs. Ann Cannon. This scholarship honors Mrs. Cannon’s volunteer efforts as a founding board member and former chair of the Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation, as well as her commitment to Atrium Health Cabarrus. The award aims to recognize and support volunteerism within the Junior Volunteer Program, overseen by Katherine Barrier, Volunteer Director. Recipients use this scholarship to assist with their educational endeavors after high school. Since its inception, 22 individuals have been awarded this scholarship, totaling over $50,000 in contributions. Bill and Ann Cannon proudly presented Baylee Barkley with this prestigious award during a social event at Atrium Health Cabarrus.
