Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation

Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation was created in 1994 to support one of our community's most valued assets, Atrium Health Cabarrus.

Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation is a non-profit organization that exclusively supports the strategic plan of Atrium Health Cabarrus through fundraising initiatives. Through an organized program, 39 board members and hundreds of volunteers work diligently seeking financial gifts from families, friends, and businesses. These gifts are used to support capital campaigns, build medical center endowments, improve patient care, provide the newest medical technology, upgrade existing facilities and provide educational opportunities for our community and staff. More than $24 million has been returned to Atrium Health Cabarrus to support projects such as the purchase of critical care beds, the Infant and Pediatric Security System, the Stealth Surgical System, the building of Cabarrus College of Health Sciences, Jeff Gordon Children's Center, Breast Health Center at Atrium Health Cabarrus and the Tucker Hospice House Expansion Campaign. 100% of the gifts given to Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation go towards the donor-directed cause and all gifts are tax deductible. Your generous donations and contributions help to make these advances possible - right here in our community! To learn or to provide a gift of support to Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation and all the wonderful work being done at Atrium Health Cabarrus, contact NorthEast Foundation at 704-403-1369 or visit www.cabarrushealthcarefoundation.org.

Last month, we proudly announced receiving a grant from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation for the Atrium Health Jeff Gordon Children’s Center Healthy Futures Clinic and the new on-site Food Pantry, aimed at nourishing neighbors facing hunger.

Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting Lisa Owens, Director of Operations at Food Lion, for a site visit where she presented a check to our Healthy Futures Clinic in support of the food pantry. The “Nourishing Our Neighbors” grant is designed to support community feeding partners in addressing food insecurity and promoting healthier lifestyles through nutritional education initiatives.

Located in Kannapolis, the Healthy Futures Clinic team is dedicated to helping children and their families adopt healthier lifestyle choices, including better diet and increased physical activity, thereby reducing their risk of chronic diseases. Together, we empower entire families to achieve healthier lifestyles now and in the future.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Food Lion and Lisa Owens for their invaluable support. We eagerly anticipate this new partnership and the positive impact it will bring.

It all started from the vision of Mr. Charles A Cannon and Mr. George A. Batte Jr.

Join us today as we are celebrating 88 years of care and honoring our legacy in healthcare for this community. Atrium Health Cabarrus opened its doors to the first patients in 1937 when Mr. Cannon and Mr. Batte led the effort to pursue more accessible and full-service healthcare for the wave of workers that Cannon Mills brought to Cabarrus County. The small, private "sick house" on Union Street was not able to accommodate the growing population and that's when the doors opened to Cabarrus Memorial Hospital.

What began as a 46-bed and 10 bassinet hospital has evolved from a small, county-owned facility into the now 457 licensed beds, multiple clinical services, substantial inpatient and outpatient network with over 380 physicians and over 4,000 employees. We continue to focus on taking care of our patients and community while fulfilling our mission of providing HEALTH, HOPE AND HEALING FOR ALL.

We THANK YOU for your support yesterday, today and the future as we continue to CELEBRATE CARE AND HONOR OUR LEGACY!

Our Foundation and Hospital deeply thank Bill and Ann Cannon for their ongoing support. Last week, we had the honor of recognizing and meeting this year's 2025 Ann Cannon Spirit of Volunteerism Scholarship Award recipient. During a gathering at the Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation, Bill and Ann Cannon honored Baylee Barkley with this prestigious award. Baylee, who plans to pursue a nursing degree at UNC Wilmington this fall, is the 22nd recipient of the scholarship and began volunteering in 2022, accumulating over 100 hours at our hospital. After nursing school, she aims to further her education and become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).

During this time, we were also joined by special guests who are both CRNAs at Atrium Health Cabarrus, Justice Edmond and Cherie Lowry. These two individuals took time away from the OR and shared their journeys on becoming a CRNA while sharing helpful tips with Baylee. We are proud of our Atrium Health Cabarrus teammates and thankful for the dedication they have to our community.

The Ann Cannon Spirit of Volunteerism Scholarship Award, created in 2004, is funded by the Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation as a tribute from Mr. William (Bill) Cannon to his wife, Mrs. Ann Cannon. This scholarship honors Mrs. Cannon’s volunteer efforts as a founding board member and former chair of the Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation, as well as her commitment to Atrium Health Cabarrus. The award aims to recognize and support volunteerism within the Junior Volunteer Program, overseen by Katherine Barrier, Volunteer Director. Recipients use this scholarship to assist with their educational endeavors after high school. Since its inception, 22 individuals have been awarded this scholarship, totaling over $50,000 in contributions. Bill and Ann Cannon proudly presented Baylee Barkley with this prestigious award during a social event at Atrium Health Cabarrus.

The Healthy Futures Clinic is in Kannapolis. This team works to help children and their families make healthy lifestyle changes to things like diet and physical activity, in turn lowering their risk of chronic diseases. Together, everyone empowers the whole family to achieve healthier lifestyles from now to the future.
