Matthews Children's Clinic is extremely excited to welcome Dr. William Besley! Dr. Besley will start seeing patients in September. Get to know Dr. Besley:
From an early age, I was interested in medicine, but my passion for pediatrics began after college, when I started working in a busy pediatric clinic. There, I was inspired by excellent pediatricians who served as trusted resources for every child and family who walked through their doors. I admired their breadth of knowledge and how they could guide patients through any illness or challenge.
During medical school, these interests were reaffirmed. I knew I wanted to serve patients during such a formative time in their lives, while building relationships with families that extend beyond a single visit. Pediatrics offers the unique opportunity to truly get to know each child and their family, which I believe is essential to a healthy patient–doctor relationship.
My approach to healthcare is grounded in teamwork, communication, and understanding. I aim to be a consistent and reliable resource for families, serving as the point person for a child’s care—regardless of their age, background, or the complexity of their needs. As children grow, I also strive to ensure their voices are heard, encouraging them to participate in and take ownership of their healthcare journey.
I grew up in Columbia, SC, and attended Furman University in Greenville, SC. I earned my medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, then completed my residency in General Pediatrics at Duke University in Durham, NC. In 2025, I moved to the greater Charlotte area, excited to continue caring for families in the Carolinas—a region I’ve called home my entire life.
Outside of medicine, I enjoy traveling to visit friends, reading, exercising, and experimenting in the kitchen with new recipes. I’m a huge fan of college football and the NBA. Some recent hobbies/interests include taking on DIY projects, challenging myself with the daily crossword, building electronics, and training to improve my 5K time.
