Self-Care for Black Men

Self-Care for Black Men was created because black men yearn support, encouragement and acknowledgement. Positive black men are often overlooked and even forgotten. Men often do not talk about their feelings, hide their emotions and are expected to show strength no matter what. Most men suffer in silence with shame, guilt or embarrassment. Men have emotions too. Men experience conflict, struggles and misfortunes and find it difficult to find safe haven. Then there is stress. Stress alone is killing men, especially black men at a higher rate. Stress attacks you mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually and even financially. Stress can manifest itself as inflammation, heart attacks, diabetes, hypertension, irritability, agitation, depression and anxiety. Self-care is essential to life. How you care for yourself reflects how you interact with others and navigate the world. Self-care includes how you think, feel and act. Self-care frees stagnation and elevates you to your fullest potential. Everything external changes when you focus on caring and developing yourself. Sitting in silence and deep rest –not sleep- are ultimate ways to decompress, recalibrate and reset to be productive and have clarity.
