Congratulations to our newest certified prosthetist orthotist, Elisabeth! Elisabeth recently completed her last board exams, and is now able to practice without supervision. While she has already shown incredible competency throughout her residency, this big step will allow her more independence with her practice. Elisabeth is interested in new technologies in our field including myoelectrics, adjustable sockets, and 3D printed components. Elisabeth is also passionate about animal therapy, and is training her own dog, Cashel, as a therapy animal to join her in her practice. Elisabeth is also a talented artist and leather worker, and can often be found working on creative side projects. Congratulations Elisabeth on your new certification!

Owens Carolina designs and manufactures our unique TLSOs which provide the support and stability of a traditional TLSOs, while offering increased comfort from our custom foam trimlines. Our TLSOs can be made fully custom as needed using 3D scanning technology, our Ortis carving robot, and 3D printing.

Lori, CFo, COA, has worked for Owens Carolina as an Orthotic Fitter and Orthotic Assistant for 17 years. Lori’s endless optimism energizes the whole office. Lori spends her time serving our patients in hospitals throughout the greater Charlotte area. Outside of work, Lori enjoys spending time at the lake with her partner and their 3 dogs. While small in stature, Lori is large in our hearts. Thank you Lori for 17 wonderful years, we can’t wait to see what else you have in store for us.

The Paralympics wrapped up this weekend after 11 days packed with activity. As the Paralympics highlight feats of incredible athleticism, this is a good opportunity to teach your children about disabilities. Children are curious, and teaching them to avoid the topic will only increase taboo surrounding physical differences. The Seattle Playgarden has a wonderful article about how to talk to your kids about disabilities. Congratulations to all of Charlotte's Paralympic athletes who competed in this year's games!

Whether it is a person who uses a wheelchair that you see in the grocery store, a child in their class that has Autism, or a sibling with ADHD your child has someone in their life that has a disability that they might have questions about. Talking openly and honestly about disability with your kids....

The first Labor day took place in 1882 in New York City to honor the hard work and economic contributions of our nation's laborers. This holiday also drew attention to strikes protesting the 60 hour work weeks expected from many people in the manufacturing field. Today we thank our employees for their hard work and commitment to serving our patients. Our offices will be closed today to give them a break, although as always, we will be open for hospital emergencies as needed.

Owens Carolina is North Carolina’s only provider of the Talee helmet by Invent Medical. Globally, Talee is the number one 3D printed helmet used in the treatment of deformational head shapes. Isabel, CPO is the newest member of our Owens Carolina team. While Isabel does all level of prosthetics and orthotics, her interests are in cranial remolding orthotics, and upper extremity prosthetics. Isabel has been instrumental in establishing Owens as North Carolina’s only provider of the Talee helmet. We’d also like to extend a huge congratulations on her completing her certification earlier this year by passing her fifth board exam. Welcome to the Owens Carolina family!
