A birth story I’ll always hold close 🤍

Scheduled induction at 5:30 PM, officially beginning at 9 PM when I arrived. We spent those early hours resting, hydrating, nourishing her body, and using gentle position changes — preparing for the marathon ahead.

At 7:49 PM she was 1.5 cm and 60% effaced. At 9:20 PM we began a mechanical induction with a Foley balloon, followed by Pitocin at 10:30 PM. After laboring for hours, she chose an epidural and allowed herself deep, restorative rest.

By 3:00 AM she was fully dilated.
At 3:24 AM, her baby was born.

The room was calm, powerful, and filled with trust. Watching this mama advocate for herself while remaining flexible was truly beautiful. Her partner showed up in every way, and the nurses were absolutely incredible.

A healthy mama. A healthy baby. A reminder that birth unfolds in many ways — and all of them are worthy.

Why Does My Newborn Have a “Cone Head”? 👶🏽✨

If your baby was born with a pointy or cone-shaped head, take a deep breath — this is completely normal and very common after vaginal birth.

Here’s why it happens:
A baby’s skull is made up of several soft, flexible bones. During labor and pushing, these bones gently overlap to help your baby fit through the birth canal. This natural process is called molding.

What to know:
• Cone-shaped heads are extremely common after vaginal births
• More noticeable after long labors or longer pushing phases
• It is not painful for baby

Why hospitals often put a hat on baby:
After birth, it’s common for babies to wear a soft hat. This helps keep them warm and can gently support the head as the swelling goes down. Many babies’ head shape begins to round out within a few hours, with continued improvement over the next few days.

The good news:
Your baby’s head shape will naturally change as the bones move back into place — no treatment needed.

✨ A reminder for parents:
Every birth leaves its own beautiful imprint. Cone head is just one of the many signs of the incredible journey your baby made to meet you.

On Thursday she said she couldn’t believe she’d be meeting her baby in just a few days.
By early Friday morning, plans shifted — her water broke at 12:52am.

Labor asked so much of her. Exhaustion set in, pain intensified, and she made empowered decisions along the way — choosing rest, support, and an epidural when her body needed it. With a little Pitocin and much-deserved sleep, her body continued its incredible work.

By 3:07pm she was 9.5cm.
At 6:49pm, she met her baby.

A beautiful vaginal birth. A strong, intuitive mama.
Both mama and baby are healthy, and my heart is so full witnessing the power of birth 🤍✨

Forever in awe of birth and the strength of mothers. Welcoming my first Bump and Bloom Doula baby boy of 2026 — we’re off to an incredible start🥳
