Attending The Oley Foundation – This Time With Family

In 2020, I attended my first OLEY conference virtually. Luminoah had just been founded, and our son Noah was undergoing cancer treatment. It was a time of uncertainty, but also a moment that fueled our mission to change the standard of care in enteral nutrition.

This year, I had the honor of speaking at the OLEY conference in Charleston—and this time, I brought my family with me.

Our twins joined Kids Klub alongside other amazing , designed their own outfits, walked in the fashion show, and—most importantly—built friendships that will last a lifetime.

What sets OLEY apart is that it feels like home. It’s more than a 28,000 member organization. It’s a vibrant, supportive community where tubies, caregivers, clinicians, and innovators come together to learn, share stories, and celebrate life. Whether singing karaoke or trading lived experiences, every moment is infused with connection and purpose.

I’m hopeful this becomes a yearly tradition for our family. OLEY reminds us why we do what we do—and who we’re doing it for.

We’re proud to announce that Luminoah has been selected to join the 2025 MedTech Innovator Cohort, the world's largest accelerator for medical device companies. Out of nearly 1,500 global applicants, Luminoah is one of just 65 startups chosen—representing the top 4% of healthcare innovators.

Four years ago, Noah rang the bell at UVA Health, marking the end of his cancer journey. Today, he’s a thriving third grader—and the inspiration behind Luminoah.

Born from a father’s determination to make tube feeding simpler, smarter, and more human-centered, Luminoah has grown from a deeply personal idea into a company committed to building a brighter future for enteral nutrition.

This week, Luminoah is honored to be featured in Virginia Business as part of the incredible momentum in Charlottesville’s biotech sector—alongside CvilleBioHub and University of Virginia's Paul and Diane Manning Institute of Biotechnology, both of which are helping build an ecosystem that makes innovations like this possible.

The ASPEN 50th Anniversary Conference offered a meaningful moment of reflection — on where clinical nutrition began, how far it has come, and the opportunities that will shape the decades ahead.

Since the introduction of the enteral nutrition feeding tube in 1976, the field has progressed from basic interventions to a complex, evidence-driven discipline powered by innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

This year’s conference highlighted:
- The expanding role of artificial intelligence in diagnostics and clinical decision-making
- The value of integrated care models in managing disease-related malnutrition
- The importance of robust data infrastructure and accessible tools across care environments

As we look ahead, clinical nutrition continues to evolve alongside advances in data, technology, and the ongoing pursuit of ethical, equitable, and value-based care.

It's a privilege to have been part of this significant milestone and to acknowledge all those contributing to shaping the landscape of clinical nutrition today and in the years ahead.

Eating is a privilege many take for granted, yet millions face challenges.

In 2019, our Founder's 3-year-old son, Noah, was diagnosed with a life-threatening cancer that made swallowing unsafe. Tube feeding became his lifeline.

Noah spent his mornings in the hospital receiving chemo and his afternoons at home helping his family in the garden. Though he couldn’t eat, he found joy in harvesting vegetables and cooking. It was a difficult reality for everyone.

Noah’s journey underscored the urgent need for innovation in enteral nutrition. It’s not just about survival—it’s about improving quality of life, independence, and dignity.

Five years later, as we recognize and , our commitment at Luminoah to reimagining enteral nutrition remains unwavering. Everyone deserves access to the nutrition they need to thrive and the opportunity to live fully.

We are grateful to healthcare providers and clinical nutritionists for their dedication to raising awareness, advancing care, and supporting the tube feeding community.

Malnutrition is a silent threat that weakens your ability to fight illness and delays recovery.

Cancer patients are especially vulnerable to malnutrition, with treatment side effects like difficulty swallowing, diarrhea, vomiting, and extreme fatigue severely impacting nutritional intake.

This Malnutrition Awareness Week— The American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition - ASPEN recommends that cancer patients and their caregivers closely monitor nutritional intake and consult healthcare providers if they notice signs such as weight loss, reduced food intake, or persistent diarrhea.

Take action today—nutrition is a vital part of the fight against cancer.

Join Luminoah in supporting Malnutrition Awareness Week™, an international initiative by the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition - ASPEN to raise awareness, improve diagnosis, and enhance the treatment of malnutrition in patients.

When unrecognized and untreated, malnutrition leads to longer hospital stays, doubles the need for rehab or long-term care, and results in a 2.3 times higher rate of hospital deaths. Beyond its impact on patients' health, malnutrition increases hospital costs by 73% and adds an average of $10,000 in readmission expenses.

Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing valuable resources from ASPEN to help Educate, Empower, and Eliminate malnutrition in patients. Let’s work together to make a difference.

Each quarter, we gather the Luminoah family for a planning retreat to celebrate our milestones and plan for the future. Last week, our had much to celebrate! Our retreat included an escape room challenge, pickleball matches, and various games that brought us closer together.

One of the highlights was discovering the musical talents of two team members who sing and play guitar, turning our evening into an impromptu concert. The night culminated in a memorable sing-along to Taylor Swift’s “Love Story”.

At Luminoah, we believe in fostering a culture where every team member feels like family. Celebrating achievements, sharing talents, and creating unforgettable moments together strengthens our bonds and fuels our mission to transform lives. Building a great company culture isn’t just about work; it’s about creating an environment where people thrive both personally and professionally. Spending time with the tube feeding community at is always a highlight for our team.
