Brain scans show fasting literally rewires your brain:

Brain scans of participants in a recent study showed changes in brain areas that regulate appetite and addiction, including the inferior frontal orbital gyrus. At the same time, tests of stool samples and blood showed changes in the gut bacteria, especially with types called Coprococcus comes and Eubacterium hallii.

The research was published in Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology.

The team emphasizes that, not only did the participants lose weight, averaging 7.6 kilograms (16.8 pounds), but there were also noticeable changes in the composition of their gut bacteria, and additional changes in brain regions.

These changes were linked to less activity in a part of the brain called the left inferior frontal orbital gyrus, which helps control food intake. During intermittent fasting, certain beneficial gut bacteria may become more prevalent, producing compounds that influence brain activity related to food intake and impulse control. T

his suggests a complex, bidirectional communication between the gut and the brain, where altering the gut environment through fasting can lead to changes in brain function, potentially affecting eating behaviors and decision-making processes related to diet. Save these healthy baking swaps and share with your friends! I wish I knew how to shop for these ingredients years ago, as it would have made my life so much easier.

🌟 VANILLA: Avoid “imitation” vanilla extracts that are made with vanillin, as this is typically sourced from petrochemicals and wood pulp. Choose real vanilla extract, such as Simply Organic brand.

🌟 FOOD COLORING: McCormick and Betty Crocker are artificial dyes made from petroleum (Red 40, Yellow 5, Blue 1). These can disrupt the immune system and are linked to several health issues, including allergies and hyperactivity in children. There are natural coloring kits available made from real food like beets, spirulina, and turmeric, such as the Supernatural brand.

🌟 CINNAMON: Most of the non-organic spices we find on the shelves are treated with chemicals and pesticides before they end up in the bottle. Organic spices aren’t treated with synthetic chemicals and cannot have GMOs, artificial colors, preservatives, and other synthetic anti-caking agents. Try Frontier or Simply Organic brands.

🌟 BAKING POWDER: Most baking powders contain aluminum, which is linked to Alzheimer’s. The popular Clabber Girl brand is also made with GMO ingredients. Look for ones without aluminum - like Rumford or Bob’s Red Mill.

Plant-Based Slow Cooker Thai Coconut Soup

Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon grated ginger
- 3 cups vegetable broth
- 1 can (14 oz) coconut milk
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 block (14 oz) firm tofu, cubed
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons red curry paste
- 2 kaffir lime leaves (optional)
- Juice of 1 lime
- Fresh cilantro and lime wedges for garnish

Directions:
1. Heat coconut oil in a skillet and sauté onion, garlic, and ginger until aromatic. Transfer to the slow cooker.
2. Add vegetable broth, coconut milk, mushrooms, bell pepper, tofu, soy sauce, red curry paste, and kaffir lime leaves to the slow cooker. Stir well.
3. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
4. Before serving, stir in lime juice. Adjust seasoning to taste.
5. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve with lime wedges on the side.

Recipe Information: 10 mins prep | 6-8 hrs slow cooking | 6 hrs 10 mins total | 270 calories per serving | serves 4
