Kidney update:

On June 30th I went to my nephrologist and my GFR was 14, which means my kidneys are functioning at 14% only. Dr. Price, my nephrologist, suggested it was time to start thinking about dialysis. So, I made the appointment with the vascular surgeon, Dr. Joels, at University Surgical Associates. I am scheduled to have surgery on Wednesday, August 13th for an AV fistula to create the dialysis access. They will connect an artery to a vein in my left arm. When I went back to Dr. Price on July 29th, my GFR went up to 16! So that was good news and will possibly give me extra time to let my fistula mature for dialysis. I go back September 29th to see Dr. Price to make a decision when to start dialysis. I am having symptoms from the kidney failure such as extreme fatigue, nausea, headaches, leg cramps, swelling, and brain fog. I have to rest more frequently. Please pray for the AV fistula surgery to go well and if I need dialysis that I will have a positive experience. I’m still looking for a living kidney donor. If anyone is interested, please let me know. Thank you for all your prayers!

Update!!! I received a letter from Emory in Atlanta, I am a candidate to be listed on their kidney transplant waitlist so I’ll go active immediately. As for Vanderbilt in Nashville, I have one more test that I’m doing next week and then I will be listed active on their kidney transplant waitlist as well! Praise God! Thank you for all your prayers. Now I need to find a donor. Please pray for a living donor.

Hello everyone and welcome to my new page! I am looking for a living kidney donor due to Stage 4 Polycystic Kidney Disease. I inherited this disease from my father. I have been married to Stephen Hays for 15 years and we have one daughter, Ava, who will be 13 in December. Living with Polycystic Kidney Disease has been very difficult and very painful due to the increased size of my kidneys from the cysts growing and I've had cyst ruptures lately. I am O+ blood type so I can receive a kidney from O+ or O- only. I am on the Kidney Transplant Wait List at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN, and currently, the wait time is about 5 years. I have been on the Wait List since January 2023 to receive a deceased donor's kidney; however, a living donation is better than a transplant from a deceased donor because they last longer. A living kidney donation can last 15-20 years. If you are interested in being tested to see if we are a match, you must contact Erlanger Hospital at 423-778-8097 and tell them you want to be tested as a match for Brittany Hays. Thank you so much and God Bless You!
