With Fall sports entering into their stride, we’ve seen an uptick of athletes developing patellar tendonitis - especially those who didn’t really take a planned break over the summer. These athletes have been going hard for nearly 12 months in a row, with no break in sight until the Holidays (maybe).

While the initial thought is to “rest and take time off”, the research begs to differ.

Something is almost* always better than nothing.

BFR, manual therapy and specific exercises are all great strategies NOW for athletes dealing with patellar tendonitis (even when an MRI says their low grade inflammation around the tendon).

We’ve seen this time and time again in over a decade of treating athletes who decide to shut it down completely until they are pain-free...

They wait, and rest. Then return to play but just because they are pain free does not mean the tissue has recovered properly and is ready to be pushed again.

That’s why an individual approach is best for tendon rehab.

If you or your athlete is dealing with a tendon issue, especially patellar tendonitis, we should talk. They can do so much more than just “rest, wait and see how it goes”.

Meet Caroline 👋

She’s a Chattanooga Soccer Player from Ooletwah who came in with low back pain.

Her parents reached out to me for insight about her recovery and wanted more options.

Yet another family who were frustrated with either:
1. More of the same treatments that mask symptoms and
2. The rest -> return -> re-injury -> rest doom loop

They wanted more for their daughter.

They knew there was more but didn’t know where to go or who to talk to.

Then she came in to for a consult.

After the assessment, I put together a plan and invited the family to join in on Caroline’s recovery journey.

Fast forward through her follow up visits and today, we are excited to celebrate Caroline’s Graduation from care! 🙌

Now, Caroline is free from pain limiting her athletic goals AND she has a specific plan on how to deal with it on her own moving forward.

That’s right - every patient we treat has an end date on their plan of care. Shouldn’t every other chiropractor be able to say the same? If not, then it’s time you searched elsewhere and fire your Chiro

RETURN TO PLAY

Have you been told, “You’re cleared to play.”

But what does that actually look like?

How do you return to competition when you know you are just pain free and can move you injured area better?

As my one of my mentors taught me, “there is a big difference, both physiologically and psychologically, between being ‘cleared to play’ and being ‘ready to COMPETE.” -

So, I’ve put together a quick reference guide for all youth, elite and professional soccer players to safely and progressively return to play via a simple framework I use.

If you’re tired of guessing why you can’t get back to where you pre-injury, then this framework is for you.

As if there aren’t already enough barriers to strength training…
Many will acknowledge the health benefits to strength training but simply won’t do it themselves.

It’s very easy to blame an exercises that challenges you, that you might fail at and that might cause some discomfort.

77% of Americans aren’t strength training enough, let’s not create more unnecessary fear by blaming the exercise or activity for the presence of pain!

In fact, I’d go so far as to say the person the blame is your last provider. Who left a lot of “low hanging fruit” in your recovery and told you to go back to your activity WITHOUT properly guiding you safely back.

Now, don’t get me wrong, some exercises may not be appropriate for some people in certain situations.

If you get hurt doing a specific exercise, rather than blaming the exercise itself, you should ask things like:
Did I ramp up the load or volume too quickly?
Was I adequately nourished? (sleep, hydration, food)
How am I currently managing the different stressors in my life?

Unfortunately, it’s much easier to make blanket statements like “deadlifts are bad for your back” instead of peeling back the onion a few layers and examining all of the potential factors that could have contributed to the onset of pain/injury
We can do better!

H/T to for the inspiration for this post! 👏

This week on the Health Restoration Blog, we are discussing a very important topic: "How not to get screwed over by a chiropractor using outdated chiropractic scam techniques."

It’s been long overdue and well warranted to provide an essential bit of warning against my own profession’s business tactics.

People ask me how to detox from the shot. Here’s what I've found and recommend:

Act Now to Get Rid of Spike Proteins:
Buy here: http://www.twc.health/drearl
1. Nattokinase - 2000 units twice a day. Breaks down spike protein. 💪
2. Bromelain - 500 milligrams once a day. Also breaks down spike protein. 🍍
3. Curcumin - 500 milligrams twice a day. Reduces inflammation and spike protein damage. 🧡

“And you should take it at least three months,” added Dr. Peter McCullough, MD (). “Some of our patients [who are] sicker; they need it nine or twelve months. It is powerful in terms of being a blood thinner. There can be some allergies, so make sure you’re wary of the potential side effects. But basic spike detox is something everybody can do.” ✅
