I don't usually post about my kids, so most of you probably don't know that both my sons were diagnosed with autism and ADHD around age 7-8 (They are 11 and almost 16 now). Most people will watch these videos and see two "normal" goofy kids, and in many ways they are just that, but they have not been without struggles. They have both struggled with motor skills (didn't walk until 18 months, trouble with writing and tying shoes). My older son had tics for several years. They are both very smart and creative but struggle in school and need a lot of extra help. And of course I only filmed the fun, happy moments. What you don't see is all the meltdowns, all the trips to various doctors and therapists, all the times they've tried to fit in with other kids and got rejected. It has been really hard sometimes, but I think they are turning out to be pretty cool young men. Just remember that autism looks different for everyone and it's not always super obvious. If you meet someone who seems a little different, maybe awkward or shy or a little weird, please be kind. You never know what kind of struggles they might be dealing with.
