This oneā€™s going to be a little personal.

Back in early 2025, I started noticing a spot on my left cheek. At first it was just ā€œthere,ā€ and I honestly didnā€™t think too much of it. Iā€™ve had redness and pigment pop up before (and I even had a couple IPL zaps on that area around that time, so if you see some red in the earlier photo, thatā€™s why).

But over time, I couldnā€™t ignore what I was seeing: the spot was getting darker and it was getting bigger.

And thatā€™s the part I want to pause on, because I think a lot of us do the same thingā€¦ we notice something changing, and then we immediately try to talk ourselves out of getting it checked.

I decided I didnā€™t want to guess. So I made the appointment and had punch biopsies done to be safe.

The results came back as melasma.

That was a relief in the sense that it wasnā€™t anything dangerousā€¦ but it also reminded me of something I tell people all the time: melasma and pigmentation arenā€™t always ā€œjust a little sunspot.ā€ They can deepen, spread, and change, especially when your skin is dealing with things like sun exposure, heat, hormones, and inflammation.

So hereā€™s why Iā€™m sharing this: If you have a spot that is changingā€”getting darker, bigger, evolving in shape, or just doesnā€™t feel like your normalā€”please donā€™t convince yourself youā€™re overreacting. Getting it checked is the responsible move. Always.

If youā€™ve been putting off a skin check, or youā€™ve been staring at a spot wondering if you should do something about itā€¦ consider this your sign to stop guessing. Iā€™m really glad I did.
