Synergy Integrative Medical Center

Synergy Integrative Medical Center We are an Integrative Medical Center, taking a holistic approach to health and wellness. They also believe women and men shouldn't have to wait that long.

We specialize in Optimal Aging including Hormone Replacement, Nutritional Consultations and general Wellness consults. Hampton Roads has some of the best physicians and medical clinics in the state, but our health care system could still do better. At Synergy, our female and male patients are experiencing wellness and renewed energy from our integrative medical care, which goes beyond traditional practices. We are blending the roles of traditional and holistic medicine to provide improved care that has our patients feeling better and enjoying their life to the fullest. We help individuals of all ages with menopause, aging, hormone loss, stress, fatigue, emotional conditions, impaired mobility, muscle loss, arthritis, side effects of cancer treatment, sexual health issues, infertility, digestive disorders, respiratory problems, chronic headaches, neck pain, tendonitis, low back pain, overactive bladder, menstrual problems, and many more. Our two co-founding doctors, Dr. Rebecca Ryder and Dr. Linda Long, have nearly four decades of combined experience and believe the future of medicine will integrate many different medical techniques. In 2007, the doctors founded in Chesapeake, Virginia, a breakthrough medical clinic that integrates mainstream medicine with complementary and alternative medicine, and the best of the West with the best of the East. Patients who had been stuck in the mainstream cycle of less than optimal results are seeing the exciting rejuvenating effects of Synergy's care. If you are suffering with health or aging problems, the solution may be our combination of modern and alternative medical therapies, which our patients love. From Bioidentical Hormone Therapy to Optimal Aging to Medical Acupuncture to Herbal Medicine, our doctors and specialists integrate many different types of therapies for each individual patient. Long before a patient gets sick or develops an illness, there are subtle symptoms and a decrease in functioning. At Synergy, we investigate the various causes of your illness or decreased functioning — including lifestyle, diet, stress, and emotions. We can guide you in making changes that lead to a better life, prevention of illness, and maintenance of your health and well-being. The medical profession increasingly acknowledges the value of holistic, integrative and Eastern medical practices, but has been slow in providing them to people in need. We're here now, and would love to help you. What does "Integrative Medicine" mean? Integrative medicine combines traditional western (or allopathic) medicine and complementary and alternative approaches, but does not replace conventional therapy. It is used for managing symptoms, increasing quality of life, and improving treatment efficiency. Basic Principles of Integrative Medicine:

-A partnership between patient and practitioner in the healing process.

-Appropriate use of conventional and alternative methods to facilitate the body's innate healing response.

-Consideration of all factors that influence health, wellness and disease, including mind, spirit and community as well as body.

-A philosophy that neither rejects conventional medicine nor accepts alternative medicine uncritically.

-Recognition that good medicine should be based in good science, inquiry driven and open to new paradigms.

-Use of natural, less invasive interventions whenever possible.

-The broader concepts of promotion of health and the prevention of illness as well as the treatment of disease.

PATIENT SUCCESS STORY

Just wanted to share with you a wonderful success story from one of our patients.

“Just want it on the record that I found myself smiling in the car on the way to work today. I mean, really just feeling good. I tried to think of why, because the obvious reason of ‘you should be grateful for everything you have’ hasn’t worked for the past 3 years.

“Well, I have been on my hormone therapy treatment protocol from Synergy Integrative Medical Center for just about 6 weeks now. It’s been a slow and steady improvement in mood and energy, & I (& others) are really starting to notice.

“I highly recommend them! They work with men and women, btw!”

Through May 29, Prolon is offering a Complimentary L-Pill ($89 value) with the purchase of Prolon 5 day fasting mimicking nutrition program. The L-Pill was developed by leading longevity scientists and doctors in collaboration with The Longevity Institute at The University of Southern California.

It is a dual-cap technology that includes a high concentration of naturally occurring ingredients that were carefully selected to be safe and effective in supporting healthy aging of the body’s cells and organs, including algal oil, green tea extract and polyphenols.

About the Prolon 5-day fasting mimicking nutrition program:

Every day we stress and intoxicate our bodies and mind with our current lifestyle, nutrition, and environment. As we age, our cellular capability to detox, recover and heal decreases, and older senescent cells outnumber young, vibrant cells. ProLon is designed and clinically tested by 14 global universities to nourish your body with premium quality plant-based food while inducing the cellular, metabolic, and emotional benefits of prolonged fasting, including going into a state of cellular clean-up to rejuvenate older cells, called Autophagy. This 5-day fasting mimicking program will guide you toward cellular rejuvenation and healthy aging.

Have you tried intermittent fasting and hated it, or didn't see the results you were looking for? If so, you might want to try a "fasting mimicking diet" featured in the article below.

This scientifically studied diet has been shown to lower body fat, visceral fat, blood pressure, insulin resistance, cholesterol, triglycerides and c-reactive protein, a marker of inflammation.

If you have some challenges in those areas, or want to check your baseline levels and see if they could use improvement, please call Synergy at (757) 410-5462 to schedule an appointment.

A big part of our Cognitive Health Program includes optimizing food choices....here are some good studies discussing why!

A new study suggests that high intake of these highly processed foods may increase Alzheimer’s disease risk.

Following is an excellent article on new research suggesting there are 15 modifiable risk factors for Young-Onset Dementia.

At Synergy, we have been practicing since 2017 the prevention of cognitive decline, and our treatments target many of the modifiable risk factors in the below study.

15 Modifiable Risk Factors
for Young-Onset Dementia

Fifteen modifiable risk factors for Young-Onset Dementia (YOD) were identified in a recent study conducted in the U.K.

The modifiable risk factors included:
• The presence of two apolipoprotein E4 allele
• Vitamin D deficiency
• High levels of C-reactive protein (CRP)
• Orthostatic hypotension
• Diabetes
• Heart disease
• Alcohol use disorder

Many people with Young-Onset Dementia are in their 40s and 50s. Recent estimates suggest that Young-Onset Dementia affects about 200,000 people in the U.S.

"Young-Onset Dementia has a very serious impact, because the people affected usually still have a job, children, and a busy life," said Stevie Hendriks, PhD, of Maastricht University in the Netherlands, and co-author of the 8-year study. "The cause is often assumed to be genetic, but for many people we don't actually know exactly what the cause is."

She continued, "We already knew from research on people who develop dementia at an older age that there are a series of modifiable risk factors. This study shows that there are many modifiable factors that are also associated with Young-Onset Dementia."

About 40% of late-onset dementia cases may be prevented or delayed by modifying the 15 risk factors in the study.

Dr. Hendriks and colleagues studied 356,052 participants younger than 65 without a dementia diagnosis at baseline. Baseline assessments occurred from 2006 through 2010. Participants were followed until 2021 or until they reached age 65.

It's that time of year again when we're making resolutions and starting over....Are you interested in knowing your body fat percentage, visceral vs. subcutaneous fat, skeletal muscle mass and/or basal metabolic rate (how many calories you burn at rest?) We have a new and very accurate body composition analyzer scale here at Synergy that will tell you all of that! Here's an example of the printout, which can serve as a baseline before diet & exercise changes or just give you an overall wellness check. Skeletal muscle is a major contributor to our metabolism and insulin sensitivity as well as a guard against frailty, falls and fractures later in life.

If you're interested, give us a call and schedule your test for only $40!
