Evidence Based Doula

Evidence Based Doula Evidence Based Doula provides evidence-based birth and postpartum doula services in the Chicagoland area. WELCOME!

We serve all pregnancies and births, & specialize in expected high medical intervention births, multiples, bedrest, C-sections, and NICU stays. My name is Mallory Ward, MS, CD(PALS), CGBE, and I am a certified birth doula and trained postpartum doula, Evidence Based Birth® Instructor, Certified GentleBirth Eductator, and owner of Evidence Based Doula. My philosophy on birth and the postpartum period is simple…Our bodies are designed to handle labor and childbirth, and evidence-based research constantly reminds us of this fact. Outside pressures and social norms of the developed world often have us questioning our abilities to safely birth our children without medical interventions. With strong a support system, education, and advocacy women are capable of accomplishing empowering and rewarding births! My own birth experiences have taught me that we might find ourselves in situations where we are not afforded opportunities for the natural, holistic childbirth we want. That does not mean that the birth of our children cannot be equally amazing! I appreciate the complexity of pregnancy and birth and have experience navigating pregnancies with expected high medical interventions, including multiples, bedrest, C-sections, and NICU admissions. Transitions to parenthood (or family expansions!) are exceptionally difficult in today’s day and age. Frequently new parents lack the support and resources necessary to care for their new baby while also practicing self-care and juggling other important responsibilities. When you add traumatic births, difficult recoveries, and extended NICU stays, the struggle intensifies. My postpartum doula services aim to alleviate many of the stressors that come after the birth of a baby (or babies!) by providing NICU navigation, mother care, household support and infant care education.

So I've come to realize that SO MANY PEOPLE are not told during their postpartum stay in the hospital how to properly use a peri bottle after birth!! 🤯

Ya'll, this is *NOT* just for cleaning after you p*e. Peri bottles should also be used to dilute your urine while you p*e to help reduce the stinging that can happen wherever you may have some tearing or stitches.

❗️PRO TIP❗️ After each p*e, fill your peri bottle with HOT water and keep it by your toilet/on the sink (it will be nice and luke warm by the time you have to p*e again). Then, right before you start to p*e, start spraying the warm water from the bottle onto your v***a and perineum and let loose! 💦 The relief is amazing and you will likely not experience any stinging at all. ☺️

I had the amazing priviledge of holding an Evidence Based Birth Savvy Birth Pro workshop this weekend with 24 community doulas with Chicago Volunteer Doulas!!! The conversation and discussion were so empowering and electrifying - I'm truly honored to be a part of both of these fantastic organizations :)

Yesterday was my first born's 10th birthday. 🥳 It is so hard to process how this tiny little baby who changed everything for us has been on this planet for an entire decade!

I was 24 when I found out I was pregnant after having been told just one year earlier that I was unable to bear children...it was the most terrifying and relieving realization of our lives. After a slew of pregnancy complications - and endless learning experiences - we welcomed our perfect little baby at 38 weeks.

He is the reason I have found my path to birthwork, and I am thankful for him every single day. ❤
