Time for an oil change? There's so much info out there about oils and which ones are healthiest. Here's a quick guide to cooking oils. Save this post for your next shopping trip! 🛒
✅ Go-to oils: Extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil. Sesame, walnut, and flaxseed are best as finishing oils/dressings as they have low smoke points - Anti-inflammatory, High in monounsaturated & omega-3 polyunsaturated fats. 🫒🥑
⚠ Use in moderation: Coconut, butter, peanut, canola, grapeseed, sunflower oils - Higher in Omega 6s, Increase inflammation in large amounts. 🥥🧈🌻
🛑 Avoid: Margarine, soybean, corn, partially hydrogenated, cottonseed, palm - Most processed = least nutrients, Increase inflammation. 🔥🌽🌴
🔅 Cold pressed oils are best.
🔅 Know the smoke point of each oil you're using. Smoke point is the temp where fat begins to break down & oxidize. For optimal taste & nutrition, oil shouldn’t be used above its smoke point.
🔅 Choose oils in a dark, glass bottle, which prevents rancidity from heat or light.
🔅 Store oils away from heat and light.
