Years ago, I ruined a friendship because I was dieting and trying to lose weight.

We used to go out for dinner, drinks and have a ball.

Then, I went on a super low calorie diet that took away everything I loved to eat.

And back then, restaurants didn’t have any super low calorie diet friendly foods.

So when she’d ask if I wanted to go out, I always felt this voice in my head:

Go out and have a good time or stick to this diet

Then I tried to make it work…

Go to dinner but just don’t eat anything.

I couldn’t just sit there and not eat anything while I was hungry.

So whenever, there was another girl’s night, I’d just turn it down.

I didn’t really say why because part of me felt it was silly to say “I can’t be around you because I’m trying to lose weight.”

Eventually, they stopped asking me to come out.

Conversations got a little shorter.

We were still cordial but not like before.

And the worst part is I started back eating restaurant food.

But because the diet didn’t teach me how to eat in my real world, I regained all the weight I lost.

“I know how to lose weight, Natalie”.

This is what she said to me in 2024.

She’s a business coach who runs women’s conferences.

She’d been dieting her whole life.

Lose 20-30lbs here and there.

Gain it all back.

After she had her second child, the weight just wouldn’t leave.

And she said this was the heaviest she’d been.

She decided to start fasting before the next conference so she could lose weight and feel confident on stage.

About 10 years ago, I went to renew my drivers license.

The clerk asked if the weight was the same.

I said yes.

She looked me up and down, said “hmph..” and paused for a second.

Then continued to process the paperwork.

From one sister to another, I secretly thanked her because I was probably 40lbs heavier than my drivers license.

But I wasn’t ready to face the fact that I had gained all the weight back and no matter what I tried, I felt like I lost control.

Fast forward.

In 2021, I got a new drivers license.

The clerk asked for my weight so I gave her my new (current) weight.

She looked at me and went right to enter it into the computer.

No hesitation.

Then last year, I got my Real ID.

The clerk asked if my weight was the same.

I said yes.

She didn’t even bat an eye.

Now, we just registered for our new TX drivers licenses.

And again, I entered the same weight.

The clerk didn’t make any weird comment or look me up and down.

Then it hit me.

This is technically my third drivers license where I’ve maintained the same weight.

Where I didn’t feel ashamed because I’d gained all the weight back.

Where I finally feel confident and in control of my body.

It all started because I stopped chasing all the fads and gimmicks.

And finally decided to put the real work in towards changing my eating habits.

I didn’t keep the weight off until I stopped chasing weight loss.

Because I had already proven I could do that.

I followed the plan. Stayed consistent. Lost 66lbs.

And then I gained it back.

For the next 10 years, I kept repeating that cycle—
losing weight… then regaining it the moment life picked up again.

Not when I “fell off.”

When life got busy.

It looked like:

Being “on track” all week…
then going out to dinner and telling myself, “I’ll just start over Monday.”

Traveling for a few days…
and coming back feeling like I undid everything.

Skipping lunch because I was knee deep in work…
then overeating at night because I was starving and exhausted.

Business conferences. Date nights. Family events…
where I was either all in or completely off.

And every time, I’d go back to what worked before…

…just to end up right back where I started.

Because losing weight wasn’t actually the problem.

Doing it when everything is controlled?
Structured schedule, routine meals, predictable days?

That’s one skill.

I told my mom I couldn’t come over for dinner because I was following a diet 🤦🏽‍♀️

Years ago, I was on a super strict diet that didn’t allow restaurant food or any food you didn’t make yourself.

I thought that was the structure I needed.

I followed the plan.

Lost weight but I was isolated.

Eating separate meals.
Rejecting time with family.
Stressed over every single bite.
Regretting telling my mom I couldn’t make it for a good home cooked dinner.

But I did it all because I really wanted to lose weight.

Then one day, I was exhausted.

I honestly didn’t feel like cooking.

So I ate the “bad” food.

And then it all went downhill from there.

I fell off the wagon and just couldn’t get back on.

I regained every single pound I lost.

It took years for me to realize this wasn’t because I lacked discipline.

I showed discipline in every area of my life, including following the diet long even to lose weight.

The issue was it never prepared me for those moments when I was exhausted or just simply wanted to enjoy a meal with my family.

I had no idea how to handle it.

So I regained the weight.

I finally broke the cycle of losing weight just to regain it and lost 88lbs naturally following my Everyday Slim Method.

“My birthday is in October and honestly, I just want to feel good in my body again without constantly covering up.”

She’s a wife, mom of 2 and an estate attorney with her own firm.

She was working with a personal trainer who gave her a meal and fitness plan.

She lost about 20lbs.
