October is Menopause Awareness Month! 🌸 At Health Loft, we recognize that menopause can be a time of challenging transition. We believe that empowerment with nutrition knowledge is key to helping manage symptoms and keeping you healthy and happy! Here are some nutrition tips to help navigate this transition:

🥑💖 As estrogen levels drop in menopause, risk for heart disease can increase. Focus on a heart-healthy diet rich in fruits, veggies, whole grains, and unsaturated fats (think fatty fish, avocados, and nuts) to keep your heart strong!

🥛🌿 Did you know that the rate of bone loss accelerates during menopause and increases the risk of osteoporosis? Prioritize calcium and vitamin D to support bone health—try dairy, leafy greens, and fortified plant-based milks and cereals!

🌱✨ Incorporate more soy into your diet! Foods like tofu and edamame may help reduce hot flashes thanks to compounds called isoflavones found in soy beans.

At Health Loft, we aim to hold space for all types of health concerns, including body image healing ❤️‍🩹 While body positivity might be your goal, starting with cultivating more respect towards your body can be a great step! Here are 5 ways to start practicing body respect:

1️⃣ Choose clothes that fit your here-and-now body and don’t cause discomfort or distraction.
2️⃣ Move for enjoyment—walk, dance, stretch, or play! Find what makes you feel good, rather than moving as a means to change your body.
3️⃣ Treat your body like a friend—seek to listen to, validate, and support it every day.
4️⃣ Be mindful of the media you consume. Filter out the content that makes you feel badly about your body and follow accounts that are more size-inclusive and body diverse!
5️⃣ Honor your body’s needs—rest, nourish, hydrate, and care for yourself as best as you can.
