In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), this often points to a Yang deficiency—a lack of the body’s warming, activating energy.

Think of Yang as your inner fire. When it’s low, your body struggles to circulate warmth and blood properly, especially to your hands, feet, and lower body. You might feel tired, unmotivated, chilly to the touch, and crave warm foods or blankets all the time.

It's not “just poor circulation.” It's your body asking for help—nourishment, rest, warmth, and support. ❤️🩹

If you’re constantly cold, especially during stress, menstruation, or after burnout… your body might be whispering, “Please, take it slower. I need rebuilding.

This quote captures one of the core relationships in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). To understand it, think of your body as a city:

Qi (vital energy) is like electricity or traffic control. It powers and directs all movement—it tells resources (like Blood) where to go, when to flow, and how fast.

Blood is like the delivery trucks—carrying oxygen, nutrients, and warmth to every part of the body. But Blood doesn’t move on its own—it needs Qi to get it going.

So, Qi “commands” the Blood—it gives it direction, drive, and momentum.

But Blood is also the “mother” of Qi—because Qi needs nourishment to exist and stay grounded. Just like electricity depends on a power source, Qi depends on Blood to anchor it and keep it from becoming scattered or weak.

What does this look like in everyday life?
When you’re Qi-deficient, you might feel tired, cold, or have poor circulation—because your energy isn’t strong enough to move the Blood.

When you’re Blood-deficient, you might feel dizzy, anxious, have insomnia or dry skin—because your Qi has no foundation to settle into.

Sometimes, we push ourselves with caffeine, stress, or late nights—forcing Qi to keep going without replenishing Blood. Over time, this creates imbalance.

This quote is a reminder: don’t just power through, nourish your foundation too.

How TCM supports this:
- Restoring Spleen and Stomach function to build Qi and Blood from food.
- Using herbs like Huang Qi (Astragalus) to boost Qi, or Dang Gui (Angelica) to nourish Blood.

You slept, but you didn’t restore. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, that deep, replenishing energy comes from Qi - your body’s life force.
When Qi is low, even rest doesn’t feel like recovery.

Maybe you’ve been pushing through stress. Skipping meals. Carrying emotional weight.
Over time, this drains your body’s ability to recharge.
You wake up foggy. Your limbs feel heavy. You reach for coffee, but it barely scratches the surface.

This isn’t just exhaustion. It’s a signal.
TCM sees it as a need to nourish, not just rest. Strengthen your Spleen, eat warm and easy-to-digest foods, support digestion and breath.
Because real energy comes from within - not just from sleep.

Dang Gui (當歸), known as Chinese Angelica Root, has been a cornerstone of Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 2,000 years. Often called the “female ginseng,” it’s most famous for its ability to nourish the blood, regulate menstruation, and ease menstrual discomfort. But its uses go far beyond women’s health.

Historically recorded in the Shennong Bencao Jing, one of the earliest Chinese pharmacopoeias, Dang Gui is described as warming and harmonizing, making it essential in formulas that support blood circulation, replenish after illness, and calm restlessness.

Its sweet, slightly acrid, and warming nature allows it to invigorate blood flow while gently nourishing it, making it ideal for fatigue, paleness, dizziness, or irregular cycles. It also moistens the intestines and helps ease constipation caused by dryness, especially postpartum or after blood loss.

In TCM theory, healthy Blood nourishes both body and mind, and Dang Gui helps restore balance, especially when life or stress has worn you down.

That frustrating flare-up before your cycle isn’t just “hormones” it’s your body calling for balance. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the Liver plays a big role in regulating emotions, hormones, and Qi (energy) flow. When stress builds up or emotions stay stuck, the Liver gets “stagnant.” Right before your period, this stagnation can generate internal heat, and your skin is where it often shows up.

Think: painful chin acne, forehead bumps, or sudden oiliness. It’s your body’s way of trying to release the excess heat. Instead of just covering it up, TCM focuses on cooling the Liver, moving the Qi, and soothing the body from within. Your skin reflects how you're doing inside.

Ever wonder how that herb actually works in your body?

Beyond tradition, it's the presence of clinically active plant compounds, known as bioactive compounds, that drive their therapeutic benefits.

One such compound is Ferulic Acid, a potent antioxidant naturally found in Dang Gui (Angelica sinensis) 當歸, a renowned herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for nourishing the blood and supporting women’s health.

Ferulic Acid has been shown to:
- Promote healthy blood circulation
- Reduce inflammation related to pain and fatigue
- Alleviate menstrual discomfort and support hormonal balance

This compound plays a central role in the effects of our T13 Blood & Qi Tonic, formulated to support vitality, energy, and emotional well-being—particularly for those experiencing fatigue, cold extremities, or irregular cycles. 🔗 Learn more at arcaneherb.com

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), every organ does more than just its physical job. The Liver, for example, isn’t only about detox, it also helps you make plans, navigate stress, and move forward in life.

That’s why ancient texts call it “the general of the army.” Just like a military leader, your Liver is in charge of vision, coordination, and emotional flow. In TCM, the Liver is the strategist. It gives you the clarity to move forward, and the flexibility to adapt when life doesn't go as planned.

But when you're stressed or emotionally overwhelmed? That “general” gets stuck. You might feel angry, irritable, indecisive, or even bloated and tense.

In modern life, constant pressure, decision fatigue, and emotional suppression can throw your Liver out of sync. Try gentle movement, less overthinking, and calming herbs like Bupleurum. Give your inner general a break, so you can regain clarity and take action with ease.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), detoxification is not about harsh cleanses. It focuses on gently supporting the body’s natural ability to clear what it doesn’t need and restore internal balance.

Dandelion (Pu Gong Ying 蒲公英)
Used for centuries in Chinese herbal medicine to clear heat and resolve toxicity. Dandelion helps the liver and digestive system process and remove internal heat. It is often recommended when the skin shows signs of imbalance such as acne or redness linked to internal heat.

Chrysanthemum (Ju Hua 菊花)
Chrysanthemum tea has been a traditional cooling remedy in Chinese households for generations. It is valued for clearing liver heat, calming rising Yang that can cause headaches or eye discomfort, and helping the body handle internal tension that shows up as irritability or flushed skin.

Schisandra (Wu Wei Zi 五味子)
This small berry is known in TCM for its “five flavors” that tonify and protect. It helps strengthen the liver’s natural detox ability, shields the body from stress, and stabilizes energy. Schisandra is often included in formulas for people who feel depleted or overwhelmed but want to gently support detoxification.

Detox in TCM is about restoring flow and harmony, helping the body function at its best.

You’re not “too emotional.”
You’re not “being dramatic.”
You’re not alone.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), PMS is your body’s way of saying:
“Something’s stuck. I need more care. I need better flow.”

Before your period, your Liver — the organ that manages stress and keeps your energy (Qi) moving — can get overwhelmed.
That’s when the tears come out of nowhere. The irritation. The cramps. The heaviness.

TCM doesn’t pathologize it.
It sees it.
It listens.
And it offers support — with herbs, warmth, gentle movement, and care that honors both your body and your emotions.

The Art of Chinese Herbal Formulas

For over two millennia, Chinese herbal medicine has perfected the science of combining herbs into precise formulas designed to restore harmony and balance within the body. Rather than relying on single herbs, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) emphasizes synergistic blends — carefully crafted combinations where each ingredient plays a specific role: chief, deputy, assistant, or envoy.

These formulas, recorded in classical texts like the Shennong Bencao Jing and refined through generations, address both the root cause of imbalance and its symptoms.

Today, these time-tested herbal prescriptions continue to inspire both traditional practice and modern integrative medicine, a living legacy of nature’s profound healing potential.

Our herbal teas offer a remedy for every condition, from kidney, bladder, and liver health to detox, longevity, sexual wellness, energy, weight loss, and pain relief. Featuring powerful herbs like Ashwagandha, Turmeric, Licorice Root, Maca, Reishi, and Ginseng. Explore our range and find your perfec...
