In continued partnership with FCB Chicago, Chicago Hearing Society hosted a special screening of Jurassic Park featuring the innovative “Caption with Intention” format. This dynamic captioning system goes beyond standard subtitles by conveying tone, emotion, and speaker identity, enhancing the viewing experience for those who are Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing.

For many, this wasn’t just a movie — it was the first time they truly felt connected to what was happening on screen.

We look forward to building on this partnership to help reshape media into a space that is truly inclusive for all.

Meet Alinnah — Our newest hire at Sloomoo Institute!

We’re so proud to share that Alinnah, an Anixter client and recent UIC grad, just started her new role as a SlimeTender at the Sloomoo Institute! 🎉✨

Alinnah came to Anixter looking for meaningful work that matched her creativity — and now she’s part of a fun, interactive team helping guests explore the world of slime!

Huge thanks to Sloomoo for continuing to support inclusive hiring and to our own Laura Meidel for helping make this moment happen. 💙

Welcome to this new chapter, Alinnah — we’re cheering you on every step of the way! 👏

In recognition of DeafBlind Awareness Month, Chicago Hearing Society was proud to partner with a national trainer to host our second Co-Navigator training. This hands-on session brought together 10 Co-Navigators and 5 DeafBlind community members, building on the skills introduced during our April training. Co-Navigators work alongside DeafBlind individuals to provide environmental information, empowering them to independently navigate their daily lives and make informed decisions.🙌

Makenzie is a student in our After 22 program at Daley College and just started her internship at AmazCakes through the Comprehensive Transition Program (CTP). With support from our Transition Lead, Laura Meidel, Makenzie is gaining valuable work skills while contributing behind the scenes at a busy bakery — her first job in the food industry!

AmazCakes owner Iesha Williams first connected with Anixter Center during a visit with the After 22 cohort, where she inspired students by sharing her journey as a business owner and dream-chaser. Now, she’s helping Makenzie take her first step into the workforce.

We’re proud to support students like Makenzie — and grateful to inclusive leaders like Iesha who help make opportunities like this possible.
