Surround yourself with people who bring you joy.

14 years ago my husband, our 18 month old daughter, and my pregnant self moved to a new state and community where we only knew 2 people. We have been so blessed over the years to develop friendships with people who have become our Wisconsin family. This year, we got to spend Easter with two incredible families who bring us so much laughter, happiness, and sense of belonging.

Did you know that the FDA allows orange growers to dye 🍊 that aren’t perfectly orange??

Here’s your answer from the FDA: “Historically it has been the policy of the Food and Drug Administration to allow the artificial coloring of the skins of mature oranges. It is a common practice to color the skins of oranges in certain orange growing areas of the country because of climatic or cultural conditions which cause the oranges to mature while still green in color.”

So why would orange growers do this?

Before nights turn cool during the orange harvesting season of January through April, orange skins might not be quite “orange enough” to be visually appealing in the produce aisle. Shoppers are more likely to purchase brightly colored fruits and veggies because the color is typically equated with dense nutrients and juice concentration. They may even be green, so some growers will spray their citrus with Citrus Red #2.

Citrus Red #2, Citrus Red No. 2, C.I. Solvent Red 80, or C.I. 12156 is an artificial dye. As a food dye, it has been permitted by the US Food and Drug Administration since 1956 to color the skin of oranges.

Citrus Red #2 is toxic to rodents at modest levels, caused tumors of the bladder, and possibly other organs. 😡 😱

However, when purchasing your 🍊, you also likely won’t know whether or not they’ve been dyed, because there are no current regulations that force retailers to label them as dyed. 🤦🏻‍♀️

🍊 aren’t the only items in the produce section that are artificially colored. There are a few other fruits and veggies that have been known to be treated with artificial dyes. They include:

Red Delicious 🍎
🫐
Maraschino 🍒
Red 🥔
🍓

So how can you avoid eating dyes in produce?

🍊 Buy oranges at the farmers market or food co-op instead of grocery stores.
🛒Shop organic to avoid pesticides and any other artificial additives.
👀Look for citrus grown in California and Arizona, two states that ban Citrus Red #2.

What do these 5 products have in common?

A day of skiing in the 🏔 after a 10-year hiatus left my muscles a-screaming last night. A few drops of copaiba essential oil on my legs, abs, hips, shoulders, and neck, followed by Cool Azul Sport. Both are powerful tools for relieving aches and muscle cramps.

It’s been a hot minute since my family and I took an extended vacation.

And this one is for the memory books. It’s exactly what we all needed. I couldn’t be more proud of these three kids for ⛷ and 🏂 their hearts out during their first time on the 🏔.

To my husband — you continue to amaze and impress me. After taking a ride down from ski patrol you faced your fear and got back out there for not one, not two, but a few more runs.

I’m proud of us all. I felt the burn and wanted to call it quits a few times but let my mind kick in to pretend I was an Olympic skier going for a medal. I made it down the mountain each time without falling but took many breaks to take in the gorgeous views.

It was an epic day.

I will always travel with my supplements. To support my immune system, hormones, sleep, help reduce inflammation after skiing all day and everything in between.

Inner defense is loaded with oregano and thyme. Look up the benefits of these two powerhouse herbs on Google and I bet you’ll agree with me that you’ll never ever want to travel without this super supplement ever again.

The rock that stabilizes our family.
He did a thing yesterday.
He drove 1,050 miles.
Through rain, snow, wind storms, dust, sunshine, and darkness.
He accommodated 502 requests to turn the heat up and down every 17 minutes.
He survived two epic meltdowns in the car during our 16.5 hour journey in the coolest of cool minivans.

Cheers to dads, husbands, and partners who do the heavy lifting so the rest of us can relax, stretch out, and get a few zzzzs.
