The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a voluntary health agency – a dedicated partnership between scientists and concerned citizens aimed at conquering neuromuscular diseases that affect more than a million Americans. Muscular Dystrophy is a genetic neuromuscular disease that affects 1 out of 50,000 people world wide in which currently there is no cure. That does not stop MDA! Due to medical advances in research children are living into adulthood. Muscular Dystrophy covers 43 neuromuscular diseases under one umbrella. Locally MDA of East Texas covers 400 patients all over East Texas. MDA of East Texas holds annual fundraising events throughout the year. Some events include Lock-Ups, Fill the Boot, Muscle Walk, Shamrocks, and MDA Labor Day Telethon.
