We are so happy to announce that Mary received a donor kidney recently and it is a 100% match. A million thanks to Mary‘s donor. And I am happy to report that he is doing very well.
The transplant recovery has been more complicated for Mary. The transplanted kidney is not yet functioning properly although Mary has been told it can sometimes take time for a transplanted kidney to “wake up“. For the time being, she is still undergoing dialysis. We ask for your prayers so that she is able to get maximum benefit from this new kidney in the near future. She is looking forward to a longer, healthier, freer life where she will not be tethered to a dialysis machine.
On behalf of Mary and her “Mary’s kidney journey “team of friends", we would like to thank you all for following Mary on her journey to find a donor, for encouraging her and keeping her spirits up, and for considering being a donor for Mary. This has been a long journey – sometimes frustrating, sometimes joy – filled, often surprising. We were so often reminded of the kindness of strangers, the willingness of others to help someone in need, and the resiliency of old friendships. As it is said, “No man is an island. No man stands alone”. We learned how true that is!
Now that Mary’s journey has ended, we encourage you to continue to consider kidney donation for others. There are so many people who are struggling to live with kidney failure, while so many of us could change their lives.
