Intermittent fasting is everywhere — from social media feeds to doctor's offices — but is this "wellness trend" *really* the cure-all it claims to be?

In our latest podcast episode, Registered Dietitian Jennifer Vittitow joins host Ellie Pike to explore the hidden downsides of intermittent fasting, including its impact on mental health, disordered eating behaviors, and social connection.

Together, they unpack the science, debunk the diet culture spin, and offer a more compassionate path forward — one rooted in balance, flexibility, and trust in your body.

What causes avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID)? Well, there isn't just one cause — it's a mix of genetic, social, cultural and psychological factors.

➡️ Eating disorders can be familial illnesses, and there are certain temperamental traits that can predispose someone to develop an eating disorder.
➡️ Social and cultural pressures to eat "clean" or "pure" — as well as increased interests in food processing, sourcing and packing — can influence food beliefs and intake.
➡️ People with co-occurring conditions — like OCD, ADHD, anxiety and autism — may experience ritualistic compulsions, lack of hunger cues, or sensory sensitivities, all of which can lead to a complicated relationship with food.

Every person's recovery experience is unique *and* slips, lapses, and relapses are so common. 😮‍💨

If you're noticing old thoughts and behaviors starting to creep in after feeling solid in your recovery... you're *not* alone and it *doesn't* mean progress is lost. But if they're feeling harder and harder to manage on your own, extra support could be helpful.

That's why we're offering a new short-term virtual program for folks who need extra support — whether they've been in treatment before or are showing signs that more care could help.

Our Summer Nutrition Intensive will:
➡️ Address returning eating disorder symptoms
➡️ Reinforce and build on progress made in treatment
➡️ Reduce the risk of returning to a higher level of care

Just two weeks, three days a week, three hours a day, all at home.
