I train HEROS.
Aurora Central Catholic High School is proud to recognize Principal Paul Mayer and Athletic Director Scott Fitzgerald for receiving the American Heart Association’s Hero Award. On May 2,2024 these two men stepped into action when they witnessed Father Sean Grismer choking on his lunch. Scott immediately went to Fr Grismer and, after determining that he was choking, administered several upper abdominal thrusts commonly known as the Heimlich Maneuver. At the same time Paul had dialed 911 to get an ambulance enroute. Eventually, the food was dislodged from Fr Grismer’s airway and he was able to breathe again. Without these rapid and decisive actions on the part of both men the outcome could have become fatal. These men were nominated for the Hero’s Award by their instructor Gayle Vaul and presented to them at an all-school rally. “An immediate responder is the right person, in the right place, at the right time, with a little bit of training and a willingness to help,” said Gayle. The presentation ended with a gift of super hero capes.
