Today we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Religious Orders Study (ROS) with a a reception honoring participants from the Sisters of St. Joseph of LaGrange, the first site to enroll participants into the study.

Over the past year, Principal Investigator and Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center Executive Director, Dr. David A. Bennett and the ROS team have visited participating sites across the country to commemorate the anniversary. During these celebratory visits, participants are served refreshments, attend a presentation by Dr. Bennett with study updates, and then are presented with a commemorative fleece jacket with the ROS 30th Anniversary logo on it as a “thank you” for their long-time contributions to the study.

It was a wonderful reception, and we were incredibly grateful for the opportunity to thank and recognize the participants and their contributions to the ROS study.

Menopause is a normal part of aging for women, yet you may never hear it discussed. It is not a medical condition or a disease, but its symptoms can be disruptive, disturbing or even debilitating. Researchers have found that estrogen, a hormone that naturally declines during menopause, plays a vital role in protecting the brain.

Brain fog, memory lapses, and mood changes that some women experience during perimenopause may be early warning signs of deeper cognitive shifts. While these symptoms don’t necessarily mean Alzheimer’s is imminent, they highlight the importance of paying attention to brain health during this stage of life.
