South Side Help Center is Hiring!!
Its new training program, R.I.S.E. Academy, for Community Health Workers (CHWs) is beginning soon! This is a great oppotunity for those community members 18 years and older who have a passion for helping others.

After years of advocacy by community members, the Illinois Secretary of State's Office announced the X gender designation is available for trans and gender-diverse residents, and any other person not utilizing the “M” or “F” gender marker designations!

The Illinois Secretary of State is partnering with Equality Illinois and Taskforce Prevention & Community Services to host a Mobile Unit event for community members to meet with the Secretary of State's office to update their gender marker on their State Identification Card or Illinois Driver's License.

WHAT?: Gender marker change clinic
WHEN?: Wednesday, April 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
WHERE?: TaskForce Prevention & Community Services (9 N Cicero Ave)

The Sunflower Project, as a Black trans-led organization centered in the Midwest, is dedicated to driving impactful social change through advocacy, policy reform, and political engagement. Our mission is to dismantle systemic barriers, particularly those affecting Black transgender communities, by influencing and shaping policies that foster inclusivity, equity, and justice.

Vision Statement:

We envision a Midwest where the seeds of transformative social change have blossomed into a landscape of equality, understanding, and respect. The Sunflower Project aspires to be at the forefront of this transformation, championing policies and political initiatives that create a more just and compassionate society. Our vision includes a future where everyone, irrespective of their identity, experiences a region that celebrates diversity, dismantles discriminatory structures, and actively fosters positive social change.

Over 35 bills have popped up in 2024 alone that aim to write trans people out of existence. These bills target everything from using the restroom to updating IDs, making daily life a nightmare. They want to force everyone to misgender trans people.
