Knowing that we may see our friends more this summer, we’re reflecting on how you can best support a friend who might be experiencing a challenging relationship – with themselves and their mental health, or with an intimate partner.

If a friend is going through tough times, it can feel daunting to discuss the topic with them. We’ve all been there before!

The L’Chaim Center in Deerfield is a home for Jewish learning, connection, and celebration.

, the Co-Director of the center, invited SHALVA staff to an event last week where we discussed how we serve the Chicago Jewish community, and how to best support a friend who may be experiencing domestic abuse.

Proud to be a member of the amazing Chicago Jewish community 💜

JCFS Chicago is partnering with SHALVA the oldest independent, Jewish domestic abuse agency in the United States, to help survivors find employment opportunities.

The partnership is in its early stages, said Jennifer Krapfl, Assistant Director of Career Services, who has met with SHALVA staff to discuss how JCFS can best assist survivors returning to the workforce, while being respectful and understanding of their needs.

Jennifer said there are many different considerations to consider, such as additional training, education and childcare. JCFS has funds to help provide these resources, she said.
“It’s a really exciting opportunity,” she said, adding that JCFS has already received referrals from Shalva.
