It may feel like something else to add to your long to-do list, but this is the stage where professional input matters most.

Why you should do it:
- Advocating for the profession is advocating for the patient. We can’t serve them if the system doesn't support the provider.
- It’s a re-evaluation of what our time is worth.
- If we stay silent and the new codes don't accurately reflect the complexity of what we do, we are essentially consenting to whatever comes our way.

This is the one time the door is actually open for us to tell the decision-makers exactly why our specialized skills are indispensable. Don't let this window close without your voice on the record.

ASHA and members of our community submitted letters urging the U.S. Department of Education to recognize audiology and speech-language pathology as professional degrees. The final rule is expected this summer, and advocacy efforts continue.

World Hearing Day is March 3! ISHA joins ASHA in recognizing this global effort to advance hearing care for every child. The 2026 theme, “From Communities to Classrooms: Hearing care for every child,” highlights the importance of early detection, intervention, and access to essential services.

Now is the time to take action. Use ASHA’s World Hearing Day Take Action webpage to contact your Congressional representatives and support legislation that funds EHDI programs, develops cCMV education and screening, and secures insurance coverage for cochlear implants and bone conduction devices.
