If you have witnessed or experienced bias or discrimination against any group of people at Northwestern, we want to know about it. We have recently launched a student-run initiative to collect information about such incidents of bias or discrimination. The stories we receive will be used to run periodic discussion forums, so that we can better understand each other’s experiences and work together to improve the policies and culture of our institution.
We have set up three boxes in which people can submit reports: one in AWOME near Terrence’s desk, one in the office of diversity and inclusion, and one in Galter Library by the bathrooms on the first floor. There is also an online version: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1GxLzWJHBg4N2viyR0Jmw3X-ZZEHqnah-YDxuu6ejxrE/
We ask people to include their names in case we have follow-up questions. We will keep everyone’s names confidential, except in mandatory reporting cases (child abuse, danger to self/others, and sexual harassment), in which case we are required to pass on your report to someone in administration, who will follow-up as per the processes in the student handbook.
This system of reporting is being initiated as a pilot program. In a few months, the student leaders and the deans will meet to determine whether it is worth continuing.
If you have any questions, send them to Lynn Ren, Nada Ali, or Stephen Whitfield.
Thanks a ton!
