A few years ago, I casually grabbed dinner with a couple of co-workers and our convo completely reframed my life.
As we sipped on mocktails and enjoyed freshly made pasta, we stumbled upon the topic of “success.”
I started by sharing my perspective: “Success is climbing in your career, continuously achieving more, maybe reaching some kind of notoriety in your field, and ideally financial freedom.”
The co-worker directly to my left had a very similar outlook. Success = career and financial achievement.
The other, she blew my mind. “Success is the level of happiness with my life. I can live a simple but happy life, and that is a successful life for me.”
I looked at her with wide eyes. 🤯 It was so simple, yet so profound.
This was, quite honestly, the first time I had heard success described in this way. I was 35 years old.
I share this because maybe you’re like me, and you’ve always put so much pressure on yourself to ‘be successful’ without being super clear on how YOU want to define success, outside of our society’s programmed definition of it.
Success, I now realize, is personal. While I have not hit all my career goals (yet), I have taken myself on a deeply profound personal growth and healing journey that’s re-aligned my life and reshaped my identity. A journey that’s been so successful, that I now mentor and walk alongside other women on theirs.
Success, then, is what YOU make of it. Is it more successful to be in an unfulfilling career that stresses you out but makes you a lot of money? Or to be on a path of alignment, purpose, ease, and co-creation with the Universe?
Having walked both, I would forever choose the latter.
If you find yourself seeking more alignment in your life, I’d love to connect. Comment “ALIGN” and I will reach out personally to get the convo started.
