"When I first got hired at Asutra, part of my responsibilities was creating an employee manual. That meant deciding what holidays we wanted to observe for time off. And I struggled with MLK Day because as a Black woman, you always feel like you have to protect your holidays. You always feel like no one else is gonna respect it.

So I didn't even put it on the list. But when I sent Stephanie Morimoto my first draft, the first thing she said when she looked at that list was, “Why isn't MLK Day on the list?” Right there, I knew that was the place for me to be. I didn't have to fight for that sense of belonging and the sense that somebody's gonna respect the same things I respect, even if they're not a so-called member of this class."

Being on Oprah’s Favorite Things last year brought awareness to Asutra — not just our sleep mask but also our magnesium products for pain and sleep, our aromatherapy products for mood — and contributed to our growth.

It’s a testament to Team Asutra’s focus on great products and listening to our customers. We learned how life changing a sleep mask can be for much better sleep. We made small tweaks over time to our weighted silk sleep mask based on customers’ feedback to make it the perfect sleep aid.

I’m Stephanie Morimoto, the Owner and CEO of Asutra. Thanks for coming to our website. I’m excited to personally give you some background about who we are and what we do. We’re a team of people that have your back (and elbows, knees, face, mind, and soul). We’re looking out for you so you can keep doing what you’re doing. What does that mean? Well, we believe in active self care. By taking care of yourself on purpose, you’ll feel better both physically and mentally, allowing you to take on anything. As we like to say around here:

Self care isn’t selfish.

Also, Asutra is women-owned and women-led. We’re able to create products that help women because we’re made up of amazing women. Venus Williams, yup that Venus Williams, is part owner and our Chief Brand Officer. Venus, like myself, started as a customer and once she learned more about Asutra and its passion and focus on natural ingredients, she wanted to become part of the team.
