Your reactions make sense.

Maybe you shut down and withdrew, or experienced anger and resisted what was happening to you. Whatever it looked like, it wasn’t a weakness but a strength.

It was your body and mind doing what they had to do to keep you safe in a moment that didn’t feel safe. That’s not brokenness. That’s survival.

You are not “too much” or “not enough.” You are someone who has endured, and the same strength that got you through can now be your gift towards healing.

Healing doesn’t mean pretending it never happened; it means learning that safety is possible, that trust can grow again, and that you can live without the constant weight of having to just survive.

You made it this far. And that means healing is possible.

At Emic Health, we believe vulnerability is a form of medicine.

It’s okay to not have it all together.
Being vulnerable isn’t weakness; it’s strength in its truest form.

We’re often taught to “be strong,” to keep going no matter what. But real strength is found in those quiet moments when we admit:

“I need help.”
“I’m struggling.”
“I can’t do this alone.”

Seeking mental health care isn’t something to be ashamed of. It’s an act of courage. It’s choosing healing over hiding, connection over silence.

If you're going through it, please know you're not alone. There is support. There is hope. There is a path forward.

Let’s normalize the strength in vulnerability when asking for help. Let’s make vulnerability safe. Let’s take care of each other as we all navigate this thing called life.

As a society, many of us have been conditioned to associate seeking mental health support with personal deficiency or dysfunction. In reality, pursuing therapy is a sign of self-awareness and a proactive step toward well-being.

Reducing the stigma surrounding mental health begins with examining our own internalized beliefs and assumptions.

When someone you know shares that they’re going to therapy, what is your immediate reaction? Your response may offer insight into how societal narratives have shaped your view of mental health.

Summer isn’t always sunshine for everyone. For some kids and teens, it can feel surprisingly lonely without the structure of school and daily connection.

Encourage your child or teen to reach out, make plans, and spend time face-to-face with friends.

Help your child make this summer a season of connection, not isolation.

Mental health is a universal right, but access, understanding, and support are not always equally shared. For Native American communities, historical trauma, cultural displacement, and systemic inequities have created unique mental health challenges that too often go unaddressed.

At Emic Health, we believe advocacy starts with listening and respecting Indigenous knowledge, culture, and traditions. It's about creating space for cultural understanding, building trust through representation, and ensuring services are both accessible and relevant.

We’re working to break the stigma around mental health, uplift Native voices in the behavioral health field, and support sustainable, community-led solutions.

Mental health care should honor culture, identity, and history. Let’s continue working toward a future where Native communities are empowered, heard, and healed.

We often focus more on where we've been and where we're going than where we are.

What I haven't done and what I need to do.

We often spend more time contemplating where we've been and where we're headed than appreciating where we are right now.

We focus on our unmet goals and unfinished tasks.

What if you embraced the idea that you are perfect just as you are?

By accepting yourself in this moment, you can forgive the person you’ve been in the past, and wholeheartedly embrace the person you are becoming in the future.

Life is the culmination of relationships. Each one shaping a chapter of your story as it unfolds. As we look back, every person we’ve encountered has played a role in who we are today and who we’re becoming. Take a moment to thank them all. Whether the memories are warm or heavy, they each hold a place in your journey. In the end, relationships are how we connect to the world around us, adding meaning to every step we take.

This weekend I had the gratitude to meet up with Santikone Khamphouvong, a man I have admired since my youth and who has motivated me to keep getting after it over the last 30 years. Thank you Santikone for filling the world with music and allowing others the opportunity to dance. Lucky to have you as a part of my story 🤙🏼
