Last week’s winning ticket ( #1096) was announced as “Ian Smith.” The ticket actually belonged to Chuck Reichwald, but before we heard from him, another Ian Smith — who believed he was the winner — contacted us and picked up the prize.
When Chuck later came forward with the winning stub, matching phone number, and address, he explained that he had purchased the ticket for his grandson Ian Thiel. Chuck has grandchildren with both the last names Thiel and Smith, and had accidentally written “Smith” instead of “Thiel” on the ticket.
Once the mix-up was discovered, Ian Smith kindly and promptly returned the prize, and we provided him with a monetary gift for his understanding. We’re grateful to both Chuck and Ian for their cooperation, and to everyone who supported Kicks for Hope! 💙
