It’s time to pay attention….
Over the years, I’ve noticed something that keeps showing up in the women I work with. Many have spent a lifetime carrying anger they were never given permission to express. Not explosive anger, but the quieter kind. The resentment from constantly putting themselves last. The disappointment from relationships that required them to abandon themselves. The grief of not feeling seen, heard, or supported. The frustration of carrying everyone else’s burdens while ignoring their own needs.
Science continues to explore the connection between chronic stress, unresolved trauma, nervous system dysregulation, inflammation, and autoimmune conditions. While no one can honestly say that anger causes autoimmune disease, I believe we would be doing ourselves a disservice if we ignored the role that years of emotional suppression can play in our overall health and well-being.
In my healing work, I often find that anger is rarely traveling alone. It is usually accompanied by fear, grief, sadness, guilt, and a deep exhaustion that comes from holding too much for too long. Many ancient healing traditions viewed emotions as having a relationship with the body and its organs. One of the teachings I work with is that anger often presents through the liver energy, fear through the kidneys and adrenals, and grief through the lungs. Whether you view that symbolically, energetically, or spiritually, there is wisdom in paying attention to what the body may be trying to communicate.
In the Andean teachings, the East is the direction of the rising sun, illumination, and new beginnings. It is the place where we can finally see what has been hidden. Fire is not something to fear. Fire transforms. Fire reveals. Fire clears the way for something new to emerge.
Perhaps healing isn’t about getting rid of anger. Perhaps it is about listening to it. Anger often points toward a boundary that was crossed, a truth that was silenced, or a part of ourselves that has been neglected. When we stop pushing it down and begin meeting it with awareness, the energy starts to move. What once felt destructive can become clarity. What once felt heavy can become wisdom. What once felt like suffering can become gratitude for the lessons that brought us back to ourselves.
Sometimes the body is not betraying us. Sometimes it is asking us to finally pay attention.
If you feel the call to heal….reach out. I would be happy to work with you 💜
