"'A lot of impostor syndrome came into play, and I would often feel stressed out and anxious. I would call my parents and tell them, ‘I’m so done with this’ and just have one of those breakdowns,' she said.
Those feelings were always followed by a crushing wave of guilt. Gonzalez, a child of immigrant parents, would tell herself to 'pull it together because [she] had to make [her] parents’ sacrifices worth it.' She couldn’t cope with these feelings.
At the time, Gonzalez was studying osteopathic medicine at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona and sought professional help from one of the school’s therapists. Through nine months of therapy sessions, she learned that her pressures came in part from her position in her family."

Heart-Centered End of Year
The end of the year can feel very full of events, memories and many times: worry and loneliness. Perhaps this may be due to feeling that it’s still 2020, your sense of safety or realizing that your relationships have changed. Acknowledging the changes can be difficult but also healing. I encourage you to take the time to hold and acknowledge the thoughts, feelings and body sensations that you experience as the year comes to a close and enter into 2022. Some ways of do this are to:
* Notice How You’re Feeling
* Check on Your Friends
* Listen to Your Body
* Gratitude for Your Growth
* Honor Your Journey this Year
* Grieve Your Losses

As we approach the end of the year, I encourage you to take the time to reflect on the high and lows and your growth throughout the year. I offer you the words of artist, educator, religious sister and social justice activist, Corita Kent:
“Love the moment.
Flowers grow out of dark moments.
Therefore, each moment is vital. It affects the whole.
Life is a succession of such moments and to live each,
is to succeed.”
The black and white photo above features Corita in the foreground in front of a commission project from Physicians for Social Responsibility. The billboard with her signature abstract work and the words “WE CAN CREATE LIFE WITHOUT WAR” are in the background. She called this work the most religious thing she’s done.

Today marks the last day of September which is also Self-Care Awareness Month. Nowadays self-care can come with a lot of pressure to fit in that massage, the mani-pedi, or treat yourself some other way. No shade to those forms of self-care but, sometimes that is not accessible and feel too daunting to do.
Honestly the most healing types of self-care that have brought me the most peace has been “boring self-care”. What is it? Boring stuff we avoid doing. Honestly, once I get this stuff done, I feel more at peace than I ever do after getting any type of self-care service.
So beyond Self-Care Awareness Month, take what you have learned and practiced this month into tomorrow and the day after that, one day at a time.
Here are some “boring self-care” ideas that work:
* Cleaning Your Space of Rest
* Having that tough conversation
* Paying Bills/Saving
* Attending to Your HygieneDoing the thing you've been procrastinating on

* Limpiar tu espacio de descanso
* Tener esa conversación dificíl
* Pagar facturas/ahorrar
* Cuidar tu higiene
* Haciendo lo que has estado procrastinando

Is That All There Is? Why Burnout Is A Broken Promise:
"According to an Insider survey of over 1,000 American workers, 61% said they were currently 'at least somewhat burned out.' An Indeed report from March found that the majority of respondents said their burnout had worsened during the pandemic, with 52% overall saying they were currently burned out. You've probably heard — or said yourself — the following things repeated ad nauseum: 'I'm so tired. I'm so exhausted. I can't believe we have to keep going.'"
