I haven't been on in a while. Here is what I have been up to. 🤩
About six weeks ago, I asked my extremely talented friend, Justin Hanks, if he would write a theme song for my book, podcast, and movement. It took every ounce of courage I had to ask him that. Not because he is unapproachable; he is one of the nicest people I know. But who asks someone to write them a theme song?!? Me, apparently. I just felt in my bones that this is what I needed to do. I explained to him that I was trying to help women find themselves in the second half of their lives; to find their authentic voice; to learn to trust their intuition; and to create strong connections. He listened intently. Oh, what a gift to be seen!
He, of course, was extremely gracious and excited and encouraging. Because, as I mentioned, he is one of the nicest people I know. I sent him some examples of songs that were meaningful to me. I sent some phrases and ideas and lyric ideas. And then I waited.
The Gremlin Parade that plays in the recesses of my brain every other day showed up and began telling me what a ludicrous idea this was. What was I thinking? A theme song? Justin probably thought I was crazy.
I even sent a text: If you hate it (this idea), you can say so. Truly.
But he replied that he had been out of town and assured me that he did not hate it! (Take that, stupid Gremlin Parade!)
Exactly a week later, I received the song. I cried. I was so moved. I felt so seen. So HEARD. I was giddy with laughter. Even Tim was moved and weepy. It was INCREDIBLE!!
I wanted to share it with the world, but Justin wanted to make a few tweaks to his -in my humble opinion, already perfect - song.
Last week, I was in NYC for an event called Women Starting Movements. I had my face and book cover on a billboard in Times Square (pictoral evidence soon to come!) I was with some of the most badass women I have ever met. Each one with their own story, their own book, their own movement. It was so INSPIRATIONAL!!! One of things that the organizer, Sara Connell - Author, Speaker, & Coach said is that we write the book we need. We start the movement we need. And now I know, beyond the shadow of any doubt, we ask for the song we need.
I needed this song to help me move forward in my journey. To step out. To be BOLD. TO BE HEARD.
This song is about more than me. It is about all of us who have something to say. It encourages us to be AUTHENTIC; to let our voice RING OUT; TO BE HEARD!
When Justin sent me the final version of this song, I cried again. I cannot fully explain what it means to me. There are no words. But I can tell you that almost every person I have shared it with has had the same reaction. This is something we ALL need to hear.
I asked him "what do I owe you for this?" He said, "Nothing. Just share it."
And share it, I shall. If it speaks to you, too, I ask that you do the same. Let's send these words around the world!
Thank you, Justin, for sharing your incredible talents and making me feel HEARD. I love you, my Friend. You are the BEST!!
