As parents and coaches, the most powerful thing we can do is remind them:
✔️ Struggling doesn’t mean they’re weak.
✔️ Progress isn’t always linear.
✔️ Showing up when it’s hard is a win.

Remind your athlete: mistakes are part of the process.

Your voice has power. Use it to reinforce the mindset that will carry them through tough games, setbacks, and self-doubt.

👉 Say things like:
💬 “One mistake doesn’t define you.”
💬 “Every rep—good or bad—is helping you grow.”
💬 “It’s not about being perfect, it’s about getting better.”

Athletes need to hear that failure is not the opposite of success—it’s part of the path to it.
When you remind them of that, they learn to play with confidence, bounce back quicker, and stay in it for the long run.

Keep planting the seed: growth over perfection. Always.

As parents and coaches, we set the tone for how athletes handle setbacks, pressure, and self-worth. Helping them reframe their words can support resilience and long-term mental wellness.

💬 Try: “What did you learn from that moment?”

🧠 Instead of: “You have to win.”

🔁 Mindful Practice for You:
• Inhale 4 seconds
• Hold 4 seconds
• Exhale 4 seconds
• Hold 4 seconds
Repeat 4 times

Take a moment before games, car rides, or pep talks to ground yourself—so you can help athletes rise, not rush.

• You don’t need to fix every feeling. Just help them breathe through it.
