🌟 SOBER STORY OF THE WEEK: Perry Grammer 🌟

"Using felt comfortable. Being sober felt unbearable. So for a long time, I kept choosing what felt comfortable. The results were not pretty. I ran out of road. People in recovery call that moment the jumping off point. I know it as my saving grace."

Finding the Saving Grace
For a long time, choosing what felt "comfortable" seemed like the only way to get through the day. But as anyone who has walked the path of addiction knows, that comfort is an illusion that eventually runs out of road. For Perry Grammer, hitting that wall wasn't the end—it was the exact moment his life began to transform.

In recovery, we often talk about the "jumping off point," the terrifying yet liberating moment when you realize you cannot continue the way you’ve been living, but you don't yet know what lies ahead. Perry embraced that moment, choosing to step into the unknown of a sober life. Today, he looks back at that critical crossroads not as a tragedy, but as his ultimate saving grace.

Lived Experience in Action
Now firmly rooted in long-term sobriety, Perry has turned his personal victory into a lifeline for others. He isn't just surviving; he is thriving and pulling others up with him.
Perry brings his profound lived experience to the team at Ohio Community Health (OCH) Recovery Centers. Doing incredible work on the front lines of behavioral health, Perry serves as a powerful reminder that recovery is possible, sustainable, and deeply rewarding. By combining deep empathy with real-world structure, he helps clients navigate early sobriety, rewrite their inner stories, and find their own saving grace.

Thank you, Perry, for your vulnerability, your dedication, and for showing the Cincinnati community what true resilience looks like!

Sober Story of the Week: Ben’s Journey 🌟

"I started drinking at 12 years old. My first taste was moonshine—and honestly, I still love the flavor. The problem is, it doesn't love me back."

For Ben, a 35-year career in the hospitality industry provided the perfect cover. He managed to hide a full-blown addiction that took hold at age 45, using his professional background to mask a "horrible disease" that was quietly taking over his life.

The Turning Point
After four rounds of rehab, Ben reached a moment of clarity. He realized that the cycle wasn't breaking because he hadn't yet "gotten real" with himself. He faced the hardest truth of all: this disease is terminal if left unchecked.

A New Chapter
Today, Ben is 48 days sober and sees the world through a new lens. Every day is no longer a struggle to hide, but a gift to be cherished.

"It’s worth it! I could not have done this without the help of my husband, Tim. Take a bow, baby!"

Ben’s story reminds us that it is never too late to start over, and that honesty—with ourselves and our loved ones—is the foundation of recovery.

Recovery is possible. Community makes it happen.

Recovery in Action: Celebrating Thomas! 🌟

Today, we are congratulating Thomas, a proud resident of the Prospect House here in Cincinnati, for reaching a massive milestone: 1 year and 29 days of continuous sobriety! 🎊

Thomas is living proof that the work pays off. By leaning into his sober network, showing up at AA meetings, staying committed to therapy, and working closely with his sponsor, he has built a foundation that is rock solid.
But most importantly? He’s shown us all how to have SOBER FUN along the way! 🎾☕️💪

The journey doesn't stop here. We are beyond thrilled to announce that Thomas is taking his experience and passion to the next level by starting a new role as a Peer Recovery Supporter at Greater Cincinnati Behavioral Health. From student to teacher, Thomas is now officially helping others find the same light he did.

Thomas, thank you for being an inspiration and for showing the Queen City that recovery isn’t just possible—it’s a beautiful way to live.

Help us congratulate Thomas in the comments! 👇

For RecoverWisely’s SOBER STORY OF THE WEEK, we are highlighting James Jones, a man who transformed a cycle of five prison sentences and deep-seated addiction into a life of profound purpose. For years, James found more comfort within the prison system than in society, using drugs and criminal behavior to mask a lifelong feeling of being "different." This path eventually led him to a North Hollywood homeless shelter, where, battling fentanyl and methamphetamine addiction, he reached a level of desperation that finally outweighed his fear of change. He realized that while drugs had been his "solution" to internal pain, they had stripped him of everything, leaving him with nothing but what he could carry in a single suitcase.

Through a commitment to medical detox and over a year in residential treatment, James began performing "estimable acts" to rebuild the self-esteem he had lost. Today, he is 17 months sober and serves as an Admissions Coordinator for a treatment facility, turning his past mess into a powerful message of hope for those calling for help. Now a present father, son, and brother, James has built a stable, fulfilling life that he is no longer willing to surrender for a temporary escape. His journey serves as our SOBER STORY OF THE WEEK, proving that no matter how many times you have been institutionalized or how hopeless the situation feels, recovery and a new identity are always within reach.

🎵 Cincinnati Vibes & Mental Health Advocacy 🎵

What an incredible evening in the Queen City! I had the absolute pleasure of watching Isabella Azaria and Zachary Peterson perform tonight. Their talent is undeniable, but their passion for our community is what truly shines through.
We spent some time talking about the upcoming initiatives for Mental Health Month this May, and the energy is contagious! They are beyond excited about the work the legendary Bootsy Collins is doing.

At RecoverWisely, we are honored to help spread the word about the incredible impact of the Bootsy Collins Foundation. Their commitment to wellness and empowerment aligns perfectly with everything we stand for.

Stay tuned as we get closer to May—there is so much good work ahead!

A mother recently shared these kind words about her experience working with our founder, Daniel Henderson. In the world of recovery, "resource" is just a word—but "compassion" is an action.

From hospital visits with fresh clothes to bringing in a pastor for prayer, we are dedicated to treating every individual like family. Navigating rehab placement is hard enough; you shouldn't have to worry about your mental health and well-being being overlooked in the process.

We are so grateful for this feedback and even more grateful to see this daughter on the path to the right care.
our services.
