We get this question a lot: “Is there lye in your soap?” The short answer? Not in the final bar. But here’s why lye is 100% necessary to make real soap.

Lye (sodium hydroxide) is a key ingredient in the saponification process — that’s the chemical reaction between oils and lye that creates... SOAP! Without lye, you can’t have soap. Period.

But here’s the cool part: when done correctly, there's no lye left in the finished product. It all reacts with the oils to form those creamy, cleansing bars you love. It takes 3-4 weeks to cure, and then what you’re left with is gentle, skin-loving soap — not a trace of the original lye remains.
