We are thrilled to introduce Retired Army Sgt. 1st Class Debo’ A. Wakefield, the El Paso County Veteran of the Year for 2025-2026! Debo’ is a remarkable leader whose military journey began in the Women’s Army Corps as a Medical Assistant at the age of 18. Hailing from the Washington, DC Army Medical Center where she was mentored and gained a strong Washingtonian family.

"I will never forget Washington, DC; it will always be home to me and to my daughter, who was born and raised there. My daughter still resides in DC and often reminds me that they don’t have statehood, which affects veterans & veteran families that call D.C. home. The memories and love I have for DC will forever hold a special place in my heart." - Debo

Although retired, her career, marked by commitment and excellence, reflects her proud service to our nation. Debo’ embodies the spirit of service, resilience, and community, inspiring us all through her continuous dedication to veterans and their families.
