Headed to my son’s preschool next week to teach the littles what most of us never learned… how to handle big feelings before they take over.

We will make sensory tubes together. You shake it when you’re mad or sad or just overwhelmed, and you breathe while the glitter settles. It’s simple. It works. And it’s the kind of thing that sticks with a kid for life.

Here’s the thing nobody talks about: the increase in mental illness isn’t just only a need for better awareness. Researchers are calling it a genuine public health crisis.

Nearly 1 in 3 teens now has an anxiety disorder. And 1 in 5 high schoolers has seriously thought about ending their life.

That’s not just a teenager problem. That’s a we-never-taught-them-how-to-feel-their-feelings problem.

For those of us who grew up Gen X, millennial, boomer… we were told to go be quiet, calm down, or stop crying. We got punished for being upset instead of taught what to do with it. And a lot of us are still figuring that out at 35, 45, 55.

The research is clear: emotional regulation sets the foundation for health, relationships, academic performance, and how a person moves through the world for the rest of their life. It doesn’t start in therapy. It starts in a preschool classroom with some glitter and a deep breath.

We can break the cycle.
It starts with the little ones. 🌀
