January is National Braille Literacy Month, a 200-year-old communications tool. Braille, invented in 1824 by Louis Braille (at the age of 15), who was also blind. Braille is a unique reading system designed for touch. Using patterns of raised dots, which consist of six raised dots arranged in parallel rows. Allowing people with vision loss to read and write through their fingertips.
Braille appears on everyday items like signs, menus, and even medication packaging. Its presence helps individuals navigate the world with greater ease and independence.

β€œThere is a wonder in reading in Braille that the sighted will never know, to touch words and have them touch you back.” ~Jim Fiebig
