This weekend, I stepped into nature to complete my certification as a pre/postnatal yoga teacher—and if I’m being honest, I walked in carrying a lot of imposter syndrome. I was surrounded by women who have been practicing for years, who live and breathe yoga. And then came our teaching day… my anxiety was high.

On the way to class, I stopped at Starbucks, rushed in, and barely gave myself time to breathe as I reviewed my sequence. My thoughts started spiraling—doubt creeping in. Then I turned my cup around, and there it was: “You got this.”

The barista may not have known me—but God knew exactly what I needed in that moment.

The studio itself was tucked away in the woods, with peacocks wandering freely. During class, they’d glide past or fan their feathers—such a peaceful, surreal experience. It made me think of my granny. She would’ve loved hearing about it. I felt a wave of sadness knowing I couldn’t call her… but all weekend, a yellow butterfly kept appearing. And somehow, I just knew she was with me. 💛🦋
To Erin and Lauren you both are amazing!! Thank you for being such great teachers and creating a space for us all to feel empowered.
This journey stretched me in ways I didn’t expect—but I showed up, I taught, and I made it through.

Yesterday, I had the honor of attending the Black Maternal Health Week Proclamation signing at the Governor’s Mansion—a moment that was both inspiring and deeply humbling. Being in a space filled with advocates, leaders, and change-makers who are committed to uplifting Black and Brown voices in maternal health reminded me that this work is urgent, necessary, and far from over.

Black women are still three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women. These are not just statistics—they represent lives, families, and futures. What’s even more heartbreaking is that many of these deaths are preventable. Yet, due to bias and systemic inequities, too many Black women feel unheard, unseen, and unsafe when seeking care.

We must continue to push for accountability, equitable care, and spaces where every woman feels valued and listened to. Black Maternal Health Week is not just about awareness—it’s about action. Let’s keep advocating, educating, and standing in the gap until real change is achieved.
