I can’t tell you how many women come to me saying:
“my cycle is a mess”
“I feel like I’m in constant PMS”
“perimenopause is hitting me like a truck”

…and almost every time? It comes back to the SAME root: a sluggish, overwhelmed liver.

Your liver is responsible for:
• clearing excess estrogen
• metabolizing hormones
• regulating blood sugar (hello cortisol + hormones)

So when it’s not functioning well…your hormones don’t stand a chance.

Can we just STOP blindly following health trends?🙄

Here’s the thing 👇

Cold plunges are being marketed as the ultimate hormone, metabolism, and resilience hack…

But for MANY women (especially the ones I work with)…it’s the exact opposite.

Instead, ask: what is YOUR body ready for?

Because if you’re dealing with:
• low thyroid function
• adrenal dysregulation (hello, “lows” pattern)
• depleted minerals
• chronic fatigue or burnout

…your body is already in a CONSERVATION state.

Now let’s layer in cold exposure. Cold plunging is a stressor (yes, even the “good” kind). it activates your sympathetic nervous system + increases demand on your adrenals and thyroid to respond.

And if those systems are already struggling?

you don’t get “resilience”…
you get MORE depletion.

Yepppp, no one talks about this side of the story.🫠

GLP-1 medications (like Ozempic, Wegovy, etc.) work by slowing gastric emptying, suppressing appetite, and altering blood sugar signaling.

yes, that can lead to weight loss… but here’s what’s happening under the surface 👇

→ slowed digestion = slowed metabolism
food sits longer in the gut → constipation, bloating, poor nutrient absorption

→ low stomach acid & impaired breakdown of nutrients
you’re eating less AND absorbing less → hello hair loss, fatigue, mineral depletion

→ blood sugar instability (even if appetite is low)
your body is still under metabolic stress → cortisol goes up

→ sleep tanks

→ thyroid downregulation
when the body senses “famine” (low intake + poor absorption), it slows thyroid output → fatigue, coldness, needing meds

I know… it feels refreshing. But if you’re dealing with bloating, fatigue, hormone issues, or blood sugar swings…this habit might be working against you 😬

Let’s explain it better:

Cold water slows digestion
Your digestive system runs on warmth. When you drink ice-cold water, it can:

constrict blood flow to the gut

slow enzyme activity

reduce stomach acid efficiency

👉 leading to bloating, heaviness, and poor nutrient breakdown

It weakens stomach acid (which most women already struggle with). Low stomach acid =

undigested food

more gas + bloating

increased food sensitivities

👉 and yes… this impacts EVERYTHING downstream

Your liver has to work harder. Instead of focusing on detox + hormone processing, your body now has to:

bring cold fluids up to body temp

redirect energy away from metabolism + detox pathways

👉 aka more stress on an already overloaded system

It can impact blood sugar + energy. When digestion is sluggish:

Somewhere along the way, “low sodium” became the gold standard for health…

…but for so many women (especially if you’re stressed, tired, dealing with acne, bloating, or stubborn weight), this advice is backfiring in a big way.

Here’s what’s actually happening 👇

When you don’t get enough quality sodium:
- your body increases stress hormones (hello cortisol spikes 😅)
- your adrenals struggle to keep up → leading to burnout patterns
- your cells can’t properly hydrate (yes, water alone isn’t enough)
- your body holds onto water → bloating + puffiness
