Specialists in Companion Animal Neurology - Clearwater

Specialists in Companion Animal Neurology - Clearwater SCAN delivers advanced, state-of-the-art, compassionate care to your four-legged best friend in their time of need.

Our team, comprised of board-certified neurologists/neurosurgeons and highly trained support staff in a specialized hospital environment, will work closely with your primary care veterinarian to provide unparalleled care to your companion. We will work with you, the pet owner, to ensure your pet’s neurological disease is clearly explained and the associated treatment options are thoroughly discussed. Every day we strive to make a positive difference in pets’ and pet parents’ lives. The SCAN Team recognizes that each pet and pet owner have an individual set of circumstances that can and should be the driving force in veterinary-related decision-making. For most of our clients, their beloved pet is also their family member, thus we will strive to provide pet owners with as much information as possible and counsel them to make appropriate, sometimes difficult, decisions about what type of treatment will be the best for their pet. Compassion will be the underlying theme in all of our diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations.

With July 4th around the corner, it's time to prepare!
Festivities often bring about loud noises (like fireworks), unfamiliar visitors, and
changes in routine, all of which can be stressful for pets and potentially trigger
seizures.

Breed Spotlight: French Bulldogs 🐶💕

Adorable, expressive, and full of personality — French Bulldogs are a fan favorite. But did you know they’re also more prone to neurological issues than many other breeds?

Here’s what every Frenchie parent should know:

🧠 Why Frenchies?
Their compact bodies and unique spinal structure put them at higher risk for conditions like:
🐾 Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) – slipped or ruptured spinal discs
🐾 Hemivertebrae – congenital spinal deformities that can lead to compression
🐾 Spinal cysts and stenosis – narrowing of the spinal canal

⚠️ What to Watch For:
🐾 Difficulty walking or dragging back legs
🐾 Sudden pain when picked up
🐾 Weakness, trembling, or reluctance to play
🐾 Loss of bladder or bowel control

👩‍⚕️ Why Early Screening Matters
Early detection means better treatment options and, in many cases, avoiding surgery. A veterinary neurologist can perform imaging and neurological exams to evaluate your pet’s spinal health before symptoms worsen.

🦴 Frenchies are tough little dogs, but their backs need backup!

📍At SCAN, we offer advanced diagnostics and compassionate care tailored to your pup’s unique needs

Let us help keep your Frenchie happy, mobile, and pain-free.
