I want to talk today about trauma.
Trauma is a blessing and a curse. It’s a blessing because of the lessons we learn and the growth we have the opportunity to achieve as Souls in the human experience. Additionally, it gives us the ability to relate to others who’ve experienced similar things, and meet them where they are - to give them a hand up or simply just to see them better as flawed humans who need love (calling all light workers!).
However, the ways in which it can reappear when we think we’ve progressed can be horrible to experience. Triggers can surprise us and create responses in us that are often housed in shame or fear. And there’s nothing more exhausting than this cycle.
I’ve explained to many clients, working through trauma often looks like a spiral🌀. At the high points, we feel “healed”, and during the low points we can feel ashamed, frustrated, and at our worst like we will never be able to move on and that we will be stuck in these cycles forever.
You don’t have to be stuck anywhere you don’t want to be!
The purpose of this post today, is to remind anyone working through trauma(s), is that this process is a JOURNEY NOT A DESTINATION.
There will be days where things make sense and you can see clearly, but conversely, there may be days you won’t be able to get out of bed. Triggers come up and suddenly may be manifesting in your life in the form of a relapses while in recovery, road rage, fighting with your spouse, yelling at your kids, bickering with strangers on Facebook etc. etc. These behaviors are clues. They are warning lights on your dashboard. Pay attention to them and address them immediately but don’t remain in them and don’t lose faith. KNOW YOUR TRIGGERS!
I want you to remember that those of us fellow trauma survivors are travelers too. We are on this road with you. We all may not be in the same place in our journey, but we’ve all been where you are, and eventually you’ll get to where others are now.
Remember to be kind to yourself along the way, and know that this isn’t an easy process. Arm yourself properly for the journey and stay close to Source, or people who keep you honest, or journaling, but especially ESPECIALLY- stay doing things that bring you joy. If you take nothing else from this post, take that. The activities that bring you joy are the Road Side Assistance on this healing journey - it refills the tank, fixes the flat tires and sends you back down the road. FOLLOW YOUR JOY!
And finally, remember that there’s others out there just like you. There IS life beyond the bad days. Never forget how loved you are, how capable you are, and that the experiences you’ve signed up for while in this life, are all part of the bigger plan for your soul as it grows and learns.
Thank your teachers, love yourself, do the things that bring you joy.
Shine baby, Shine. 🌞 ❤️🩹
