Dry brushing is a trendy technique with ancient origins. Also called skin brushing or body brushing, dry brushing has been used for cleansing and beautifying the skin since ancient times by the Greeks and the Japanese.
Dry brushing is beneficial because our lymph nodes can become clogged due to our exposure to chemicals and pollutants in our environment. When we dry brush, we stimulate the pores on our skin, which allows them to open up more fully. Diet is a cornerstone of good health, and it's especially important when it comes to mental health. Depression, anxiety, sleep difficulties and inflammation-related illnesses have all been linked to nutrient deficiencies.
Serotonin is our "happy chemical" that reduces anxiety and promotes feelings of well-being. This means that if our gut is unhealthy, it can impact our mood.
