Going through a loved one’s belongings after they pass can be one of the hardest parts of grief. This grief support group offers a welcoming space to talk it through together. We were grateful for a special visit from a memorial group that provided a delicious catered meal for our patients, family members and visitors. A few local high school students joined us to help serve dinner, while one of our volunteers filled the space with quiet piano music. Good food, a calm atmosphere and gentle music made for a meaningful evening. 💙

When is it time to call hospice?🤔
Many families worry about calling hospice too soon. In reality, hospice offers support when someone faces a serious illness and treatment is no longer focused on a cure. Calling earlier allows care teams to manage symptoms, provide emotional support and guide families through what comes next. Learn more or reach out anytime. Support is available 24/7 at 800.707.8922

We partnered with The Laurels of Mount Vernon for a heartfelt “bells” memorial service. Our team offered music, poetry, and words of hope for residents and staff. During the service, the names of 74 individuals were read aloud, and attendees rang tiny bells to honor their memory. It was a quiet, moving moment of reflection and connection—a reminder that the lives we’ve lost continue to touch our hearts.

A new year brings a lot of “what ifs.” What if we slowed down. What if we reached out. What if we showed up for someone else. Volunteering is one simple way to turn good intentions into something meaningful. Our volunteers don’t just give their time. They offer presence, compassion and reassurance to patients and families when it matters most. If you’ve been thinking about volunteering in 2026, this might be your sign.

The Hospice of the Western Reserve is always looking for people to volunteer, writes guest columnist John Bailey.

The gift of music filled David Simpson Hospice House when talented singers from the Rockwell Automation Choir shared traditional holiday and winter songs with residents, visitors and staff. They performed in the atrium and then traveled room to room, offering special bedside performances by request. We are grateful to the Rockwell Automation Choir for returning and for sharing their time, talent and heart with our residents and families!

For the Fraternal Order of Ashland Eagles, giving back is a tradition rooted in community. Their members raised $17,800 to support local hospice and palliative care! For the past 14 years, the Eagles have hosted casino nights, pie auctions, food booths and poker runs to help ensure compassionate care is available for patients and families across North Central Ohio. We are grateful for their generosity and the lasting impact of their commitment to care!
